Sex, Love, and Marriage

So this is just some stuff that has kind of been bothering me.  The way that those three things- sex, love, and marriage- have been completely stripped of their sanctity and have, instead, been tossed around as though they mean nothing.

The first one:  Sex- I recently read in a magazine that the average American will have 11 sexual partners ( Read more... )

this has always been a feisty debate amongst people of all sides of the equation. to redefine marriage, we begin with civil unions. what's the likely hood that it will end there? what's the likely hood those within civil unions will consider that "good enough"? As we struggle with this issue, one can't help but wonder if we redefine what marriage is by using terms like "civil unions" what basis would our government have for telling a man he can't marry 2 women, or a woman marry 2 women? what basis do we have to stand on if our central theme is that we shouldn't deny anyone anything if that is what they want, even if we disagree with them? chew on it and see what comes to mind... i'll be looking for some more replies!

i actually fully believe that the day will come where if a pastor does not perform a same sex marriage, they can be fined or arrested because it could be considered part of a hate crime

ya know the way things seem to be able to progress I wouldn't count that possibility out,

but at the same time, isn't saying denying these citizens rights now is protecting the rights of citizens later
somewhat the equivalent of saying we take your privacy away today to save you from tomorrow? Maybe, maybe not.

If what you purpose would to happen though I would be the first person protesting it,

but isn't this primarily a religious issue? the Christian Bible says it's wrong therefore it's illegal, the Torah says it's wrong not to pray five times a day, but not praying five times a day isn't illegal.

i do think there is moral ground within all laws and to say we don't/can't base our laws around a moral compass is ignorant,

But once again essentially we are favoring the doctrine of one faith over another which two hundred years ago was fine because every one pretty much shared the same faith but the moment we decided to become a melting pot is the moment we challenged that idea of favoring one faith over another.

it seems that in this discussion we've missed the real starting point. The real starting point is to determine whether or not homosexuality is a choice or not. If it is not a choice and a person is born that way, then one can make a convincing argument, even using the Bible why they should recieve the same rights as other people. however, if it is a choice, then with each choice comes consequences. To provide equal rights for people who choose to live a lifestyle that is contrary to not only the Word of God, but also was and is illegal in many states, though they don't enforce it. The natural progression is to demand my right to do whatever i want without regard to any consequences... i.e. abortion ( ... )
