Lunch with The Ex went better than expected. We spent an hour catching up and chatting about mutual friends, then for the last 20 minutes launched into apologies and explanations. Apparently he still feels some animosity towards me that he's trying to work through because he knows it's not healthy. He doesn't want to take all those feelings with him to Alaska. We were able to talk about why we did the things we did in the past, and we've said that we don't want to hurt the other anymore.
Looking at him sitting across the table, I saw glimmers of the man I used to know. He's coming out of that dark period in his life, and I think he'll be a better person for it. He still has all the same mannerisms, both the ones I loved and hated, but I think he's grown up a lot in the past year. I spent two years of my life with him, and we never really had a fitting ending. Today, though, we were able to finally have some sort of closing, even if it was a year and a half late.
