Just before midnight last night, we had a 7.4 earthquake. We had been doing so well, no 6s in the last couple days, just a handful of 5s farther south. Now whenever it's quiet I'll just becoming increasingly worried. Wonderful.
Power went out, gas went out, water went out. Thankfully the phone lines weren't as frantic as last time. But still.
There are four of us in the dorm. The emergency doors all shut. The hallways still had emergency lighting, so Andree and I moved into the hallway and made a blanket pile. Our private slumber party lasted for two hours. It was awesome. Awesome, because I was convinced that everything would be fixed by the time we woke up.
It wasn't. Gas came back at 9am, and I was forced to cook up some very suspicious meat from my fridge before it got even more suspicious. Power and (suspicious brown) water finally came back around 2pm, and the internet just righted itself now at 6pm.
Except now I feel ridiculous, because the moment I had no power and no idea when it was coming back, it was like flipping a switch of total despair. Power comes back, tantrum ends. Oh my god, self. It wasn't even 24 hours. Calm down.
The import store is never going to manage to get tortillas back in stock at this rate.
How you know another big earthquake is going to hit:
1. You really need to take a shower.
2. None of your dishes are washed.
3. You've eaten too far into your emergency food supply without replenishing.
4. You just restocked your fridge.
5. You've been procrastinating on sending super important emails.
I never fucking learn.
