I closed my locker and shifted my books to my other side. My schedule was totally different now. Social Studies first, I reminded myself, glancing at the card with my "new" schedule on it. Even if Lucas didn't want my help, I couldn't undo the schedule change. It was in the teacher's roll call sheets. I glanced up and saw Lucas trying to spin his lock with his left hand. It wasn't working. I crossed the hall.

"What's your combo?" I asked. He turned, surprised, to look at me.

"15, 10, 23," He said. I nodded and opened his locker. "Thanks," he said. He grabbed his social studies book, but didn't have another arm to grab anything else.

"Notebook," I said, grabbing it. "Pencil. Pen. Anything else?"

"No," He said, watching me. He was doing that same creepy analyzing thing.

"Okay, then let's go." I started walking down the hall, still holding his stuff. "Hey, Rae," I said, waving as she walked past towards the science room. She noted I was carrying almost twice as much stuff, and her eyebrows went up. She would be questioning later.

I took my new seat in the social studies room, behind Lucas. I was in the far back, as I would be in all my classes. But that was okay. I liked the back. Besides, I got to stare at Lucas, to make sure he didn't need anything. I know, he told me I didn't have to. But it didn't seem like such a bad idea anymore.
