I was looking at a Toys R us catalogue yesterday morning .... it was full of little girls holding dolls, pushing around carriages. Little boys waving swords and handling power tools. When you really sit down to look at these images, it is scary. There little kids holding babies…. Or little 5 year olds wearing princess costumes, with an attempted “sexy look” on their face.
I truly believe that the power of change will come through our children, but not if we keep feeding them these tired old notions of man and women. It may seem like a small thing to those of us who grow up with the power of an open mind but not everyone is so lucky. If this week’s US election results are any indication, I think we are in trouble. We are a people making thoughtless decisions because they are easy decisions. This is not to say that Americans are the only ones, people from all walks of life are guilty of this. The power of “group think” is very strong and the only way to see past it is to keep reminding ourselves to think outside the box.
That being said I am thinking of doing more to help my fellow man. I am even thinking of a career change. It is something I have always wanted to do and something I think I would be good at. To spend your life making the world a better place, what could be better ?
