Jack, the Doctor. Coping mechanisms.
At the beginning Jack went every week. Gwen would accompany him occasionally, but now that the baby’s here he hardly ever sees her now. Eventually it becomes quarterly, half-yearly, then only on their birthdays.
“Does it ever get easier?” He asked the Doctor once.
“Only if you forget.” His eyes are sad and old in a face that is disturbingly young.
“Do you try to forget?”
“I travel. And I run a lot.”
“Does it help?”
“Only when I have someone with me.”
“Let’s go then.”
The pain never goes away, really, but the running gives him something to do.
