He knew the gang's leader was a liar when he reminded jeffrey later on how jeffrey owed now that the task had been completed.
"$14,000," he'd said.
And 14,000 was exactly as much as he owed, that much was true. But when the gangster had given him that number originally, it meant something different, it hadn't sounded the way it did now.
The weight of the number had been concealed by the his deceptive toungue; because even though he'd said the same number twice, he'd meant two different things, producing the real meaning behind the shroud of the words he'd used to show it.
It was only now was the true amount owed made clear, and it was at that moment that jeffrey's heart sank slowly down, carrying now the unforseen weight of the gangster's deception.
