religious is definitely something i've never claimed myself to be. there have been times when i've leaned against it or away from it in my skepticisms, but for the larger part i've just been neutral about it

It appears to me that you are looking at the world through Taoist eyes. I myself have been described this way. I can not refute this because I look at the description of Taoism and it follows what I have come to believe as true(as best as I can ascertain). Taoism closely resembles the "Force" concept

well put, i agree with you entirely
and yeah, i was being felt like i was being a little bit conservative with my estimate, but it's definitely comfortable for me to choose to be optomistic
haha, and yeah, that's actually something i've discussed with my brother lately about why i could never be a "christian," which in this case i still distinguish from being an actual follower of jesus.
especially in catholicism, there's this idea of original sin, and more largely in all christianity, the perception of men and women as being inherently frail, and in need of some higher power in order to live a morally valuable life.
and i've never been able to accept that, becuase, as you say, it basically lacks personal responsibility, and that naturally causes people to take their morality lightly and then take advantage of this forgiveness thing.
i wouldn't accept a religious doctorine (or philosophy) that suggests that morality is actually just unnatainable.

Have you ever read Atlas Shrugged by Ann Rand? THat to me is a case study of responsibility of one's own actions... If you haven't read it, I strongly recommend it..
