"I don't like him."
Yuuri rolled his eyes and reached into the refrigerator for some cream. "I know, Wolf. You don't like anyone at first, but--"
"I like people!" Wolfram snapped defensively, crossing his arms over his chest. "I just don't like people with suspicious intentions toward my boyfriend." A pout.
"Suspicious intentions?" Yuuri laughed. He shouldn't be surprised. Wolfram had always been the jealous type. Even back when they had only been roommates the other boy had hounded him about staying out too late or going out for drinks with Murata. Even back when Yuuri was still convinced he was straight. "Wolfram, you're being ridiculous. Sara is new to the city. He doesn't have any other friends yet."
Wolfram narrowed his eyes. "He can make other friends. Why do we have to be his friends?"
Yuuri sighed. "He's our neighbor. We're being neighborly."
"Why have him over here for coffee then? If we're being neighborly just bring him a jello mold and be done with it." Wolfram crossed to the other side of the kitchen to fiddle with the new coffee machine his older brother had bought him for his last birthday. "It's good coffee. Why do we have to give him the good coffee?"
"Brat." Yuuri grinned and moved to hug him from behind. "It's hard to believe you're not an only child."
Wolfram relaxed against him and twisted around to return the hug face-to-face. "It's hard to believe that you're so naive. That Sara was making eyes at you the entire party last night. And what's with 'Sara' anyway?"
Yuuri made a face. "Don't be so insensitive. He's probably just transitioning."
"That queen is trying to transition into my boyfriend's pants that's what--"
"Stop being ridiculous!" Yuuri tried to pull away but Wolfram held tight.
"No. You're right, that's ridiculous. Two bottoms don't make a top," he teased.
Yuuri could feel his face heat up. "Hey! We switch... sometimes..."
Wolfram kissed his forehead. "I know. I just like making your face change colors, Wimp."
"Brat..." Yuuri had time to grumble before the doorbell rang. "I'm expecting you to be on your best behavior. No green-eyed monster." He tried to back out of Wolfram's arms but his boyfriend only held him tighter.
"I thought you liked it when I'm jealous?" A breath against his ear. "Possessive? You know, I'd started to hope this was all just an elaborate way to initiate kitchen sex."
"Wolf..." Yuuri blushed, finally managing to squirm away. "Later, okay? But only if you're good."
The doorbell rang again and Yuuri could practically hear Wolfram's pout as he rushed off to answer it.
"Sorry to keep you waiting!" Yuuri said as he pulled open the door. "Please come in."
"Thank you." Sara smiled. "I was beginning to think I had the time wrong." He was carrying a small plate of cookies covered in plastic wrap and had put his long hair up into a ponytail. The look was oddly masculine, or at least it seemed odd for how Yuuri had remembered the other boy from the party.
Yuuri took the plate of cookies from Sara and led him to their small living room where Wolfram was assembling the full coffee pot and cups. "Hello," was all Wolfram said before heading back into the kitchen.
Yuuri sighed, and tried to remind himself that, knowing Wolfram, that was his best behavior. "Have a seat anywhere you like." Yuuri put the cookies that Sara had brought onto the coffee table and sat on the sofa. He had expected Sara to take a seat in the armchair closest to him but instead the other boy sat next to him. In any other situation Yuuri wouldn't have thought anything of it, but now Wolfram had put all sorts of weird thoughts into his head. Wolfram. Wolfram was not going to like this.
"Yuuri?" Sara worried his lip. "Is everything alright?"
"What?" Yuuri gave a nervous laugh. "No. I mean-- Yes, everything is fine." And everything was fine, Yuuri told himself again. He was the one acting weird in this situation. "How are you liking the neighborhood so far?"
"Oh, it's great," Sara assured him. "It's nice to have the freedom to go anywhere I want to on the subway without having to worry about a car."
Yuuri was about to ask Sara more about where he had lived before when he felt the tension in the room rise as Wolfram entered and put down a pitcher of cream and a dish of sugar cubes.
"Sorry to interrupt." Even if Yuuri hadn't known Wolfram for years he would have been able to tell the smile was forced. Wolfram fixed his own cup of coffee and sat on the adjacent arm chair.
Yuuri busied himself with fixing Sara a cup of coffee. "Cream or sugar?"
"Lots of sugar, please." Sara smiled and took the cup. "Please try the cookies as well."
Yuuri poured some cream into his own cup. "I'm not one for sugar myself, but Wolfram loves sweets." He gave his boyfriend a pleading look. "Don't you, Wolfram?"
"Indeed." Wolfram leaned forward to wrestle a cookie from under the plastic wrap and take a bite. "Thank you for going through the trouble of making them."
"Not at all." Sara's smile widened. "They're my best recipe."
"Alright, now you've made me curious." Yuuri took his own cookie from the plate and took a bite. It wasn't too sweet but it did have an almost earthy flavor that he wasn't expecting. "These are good!" he said, mostly to be polite. Wolfram must have genuinely liked them because Yuuri noticed the other boy pick up his second cookie. "What makes them your best recipe?"
"Oh, you know." Sara smiled and gave a nervous laugh of his own. "Probably the hashish."
"The what?" Yuuri couldn't have heard him right.
"Hashish," Sara said again, this time more serious.
Yuuri met Wolfram's eyes across the room, or tried too. Wolfram was looking in some legitimate concern at the half-eaten second cookie in his hand. "How long until it kicks in?" Yuuri asked.
"How long until it kicks in?!" Wolfram yelled. "That's your question? Not, 'why didn't you inform me of the THC content?'" Wolfram stood. "Who does that? Who drugs people without telling them?"
Sara looked like he was about to cry. "I thought that's what people did in the city? You know, 'come over for coffee' means sex and 'I'll bring some of my special home made cookies' means... I'll bring some of my special home made cookies?"
Wolfram blinked. Looked at Yuuri and blinked again. "So you came here expecting..."
Sara blushed. "You're both so cute and I thought--"
"GET OUT!" Wolfram's face was turning red. "LEAVE. Now."
"Hold on!" Yuuri stood. "Wolfram, it's not a big deal."
"I'm so sorry! I just thought-- obviously I made a mistake!" Sara picked up his plate of cookies and rushed toward the door. Yuuri was sure there were tears streaming down his cheeks.
"Wait." Yuuri stopped him before he could leave. "Look, there's no harm done, we can still be friends--"
"--no we can't--!"
"--Don't mind Wolfram he's just possessive and-- and he has a right to be as we're in a committed relationship-- but we can talk about this tomorrow, okay? Please don't be too upset."
Sara nodded frantically and nearly tripped over himself in his haste to leave. Yuuri barely had time to blink before he was gone.
"I'm guessing things will be fun... in an unknown period of time..." Yuuri managed as he walked back into the living room to check on Wolfram.
The other boy had sat back in his armchair and was looking at Yuuri like he was the one who had secretly drugged him. Yuuri's first reaction was to apologize, but then the more he thought about the situation the more ridiculous it seemed. Wolfram didn't have any particular aversion to the concept of recreational cannabis; they both had friends who smoked on occasion, but as far as Yuuri knew Wolfram had never tried any of it himself.
Wolfram. Wolfram who never relaxed and always took things too seriously.
It was just too funny.
"Don't laugh at me!" Wolfram snapped in outrage. "Stop it!"
Yuuri couldn't stop it. "But Wolf, it's no harm. I'll be here to make sure you're okay... and... and..." There were tears in his eyes he was laughing so hard.
Wolfram glared, but there was a smirk building on the edges of his lips. "I am getting so much sex in compensation for this, you realize. You won't be able to sit comfortably for the rest of the month."
"Oh, of course," Yuuri assured in mock seriousness, moving over to give Wolfram a hug. "Anything for my poor, abused Wolf." He gave the other boy a kiss.
And after that the only thing to do was wait.
