Win some (lanes), lose some (jobs)

In old news (new to me), Obama's Transportation Secretary, Ray LaHood, wants to give bicycling - and walking, too - the same importance as automobiles in transportation planning and the selection of projects for federal money. So maybe it'll become even easier for me to bike to work.

In new news, Obama's director of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Rajiv Shah, is heading up a project spending $10m in federal funds to train workers, including 3,000 specialists in IT and related functions, in South Asia, accelerating the rate at which IT work will be outsourced to Sri Lanka, meaning there will be less work in my field within biking distance.

We'll call it a draw, if we get those bike lanes.
