Toni the elephant was put to sleep because of severe pain due to arthritis. Do you remember our trip to see Toni when you were about 3 years old and she spit on you?

She was a grumpy elephant. But it's sad to hear that she was in pain.

I took you to see Toni when you were about 3 years old. When we walked into her area, she was drinking from a bucket. She looked up at you and spit water all over you. For the next year whenever Toni was mentioned, you would shout, "Toni PIT on me." The following year, I again took you to see Toni, but you wouldn't go inside the building. You were afraid Toni would spit on you again. We peeked around the corner and saw that Toni was not drinking water. She was eating hay, so we went inside. When Toni saw you, she spit the chewed up hay in your face. I don't know if it means anything,but the article said that Toni was captured at a young age in her homeland, Thailand.

She was very playful. The article in the Times told about kids one day throwing twigs and other small items at her. She gathered all of their stuff into a pile and with her trunk, threw them back at the kids. At the time you didn't care for her sense of humor. Keep the faith
