everyone's got their two cents, so here's mine:
I'm not saying this to defend her, her actions, or anything like that. If this had happened to anyone else and I'd caught wind of it, I would be saying the same thing. If people don't realize that before I go into this then they clearly don't remember how big my mouth is when people bring this shit to my attention (and Ian brought it to my attention, not her. She hasn't spoken to me about this directly -or any of the drama- at all).
I don't agree with people selling gift art given to them for personal gain, even if the friendship or relationship ended sourly. This goes for anyone, and even if you're in dire straits or anything else of the sort.
I still have Lee*Lee's artwork for me that she gave me when she visited Jolyn safely kept in an envelope. For those of you that don't know that ended in drama and ridiculousness and we don't talk anymore. But I still have it after what? 3 years? If I ever get rid of it, I'll try to ask first (even though we don't talk) if she wants it back, and if not, I'll dispose of it.
When Oliver and I broke up (epic drama much?) I went through all
all
of my piles of artwork and loose papers and found all of the art that was his and gave it to him. When I found more later I had Azzy/Tommy give that to him too, despite the fact that I wanted nothing to do with him. When I found his hand painted Coma bag in my closet I still contacted Tommy again and had them take it, even when Oliver said he didn't give a shit about it. I could have thrown it out. Any art for me I threw away.
I don't consider myself a decent person, but personally I can't even fathom acting like this with artwork someone else gave to you. If it was a commission, that you bought, I can understand, as the emotional value put into that probably is nothing even remotely similar to that of what gift art can be, especially among friends or lovers.
I just think it's fucked up. And you know me, I have that bad habit of saying what I think. I'm not saying it for drama and I don't expect anyone in this community to agree with me. In b4 this gets picked apart on dramachan or here or whatever.
edit:
EXAMPLE:
Dude gives me a table. Just gives it to me. No sentimental value, he didn't make it, he just didn't want it anymore. Sure, I'd sell it if I didn't want it someday.
Another dude gives me a table (wow I'm getting a lot of tables for some reason :| ) that he made for me. Made. We're friends or whathaveyou. We get into a fistfight. Friendship? Yeah, over. Table? I ask if they want it back. They say "Fuck you no get away from me". I either:
throw it out
or give it away. For free.
I do not sell this shit.
If they where GIVING her art away, I would give a rat's ass. But they're not.
Fin.
wtf your work is trash
