Way overdue for an update and a post.
First, thank you very much to everyone who offered help in the job hunt. I appreciated every lead and piece of encouragement!
I ended up with a new job early December, although it is only a 6 month contract I have hopes it will go longer. If not, I won't be surprised or feel bad, there may just be no more work when the current project is done. Would have liked something more long term, but not in a position to wait a long time, and this seems like a good gig. Is for a small tech company that was bought by another small tech company, so there is a big integration project, for which I am writing the requirements. Will they buy more companies and do it all over again? I hope so. Might well happen. It is good to be working for a tech place and not a financial place though. Such a different feeling to, well everything. I'm not the only person with long hair. Other people watch the same shows as I do. Competence is valued more than appearance. I could go on, but that sums it up really. Only downside is hourly contract means no work no pay, which means no real vacations and don't get sick. Blah to that. My rate is high enough to handle some missed time, but still, would not want to be contract for long.
I fell down in the ice storm after the holidays, and hurt my elbow enough I was offline a while. All my computer time was for work, so between the holidays, a very busy time at work, and the injury, my social media went away for a bit. Trying to catch up some today. I'm still not 100%, but at least I can type as much as I want now. Nothing like having to write for work, and then not being able to type.
Thinking about it, I had a lot of stress for a variety of reasons, for months. I'm probably just getting to a more normal place. I have not been suffering, more not having the energy for as much after work as normal. Certainly affected me being on social media, meaning here since I am not on other sites.
I have a LARP to finish writing by Labor Day. Welcome back stress. I am not too worried though, but lead writer for a big project, where many of my best friends will be counting on me and a few others to have the game done and done well, on time of course, some stress. I do like writing games and have been enjoying this one a lot.
I think I'm rather boring at the moment. Work, rest after work, do chores, work on LARP, do a little social stuff. What social things I have been doing have been really fun though.
Randomly, I bought so much coffee from "Philz Coffee" for myself and holiday presents I ended up eligible for their holiday gift care draw, and won, so $100 of free coffee from an awesome place. They have great decaf, which is mostly what I drink now.
Anyways, I am overall well, and looking forward to virtually keeping up with you all :-)
