Those who can't. . .

take Linguistics.

I respect the hardships of teachers. I respect their dedication to kids and their sacrifices. They don't get paid enough, no doubt. Yet this last year I've been back, my opinion of some teachers has fallen so drastically that I fear I am verging onto an attitude where I have to have the teacher prove to me that they possess these attributes. No longer am I going to make these assumptions because frankly, I don't believe they are true for the majority of new teachers and giving them the benefit of the doubt is dangerous. I have not quiet reached that point, but as I said, I am getting close to it. Now, I approach teachers with the same respect I have for everyone in the beginning, but now, I think I can only have some reservations about their abilities. There are several reasons for this:

1) The people who are going into teaching are going into it in default. "Uhh... I didn't know what to do, so I am going to do education. Summers off, right?" Lessons plans, etc so probably not, but the idea that you are doing something because you didn't want to or couldn't find anything else justifies the horrid maxim: Those who can't, teach.

2) My Linguistics class is filled with teachers (a vast majority). I can say without hesitation that because of his composition I have lost three hour and a half classes. This is one of my favorite classes ever and I feel robbed because of the ineptitude of these pre-education people. It is beyond pathetic. Wouldn't you have liked to see how your teachers did in school? I suggest don't doing that because not one of these soon to be teachers has shown me anything borderline competent outside of some flashes in the pan. You can say I am being overly harsh, that's because you are not there. If you never learned the parts of speech, fine, your previous teachers obviously sucked, then you need a refresher course, whatever. But, 3 hours of my time because you don't know shit pisses the hell out of me. I am so fucking sick and tired of these jokers. It is like trying to get a monkey to eat a dog. They are teachers who can't learn. PATHETIC! There is more, but I shall refrain myself.

3) There was an incident involving my brother and a teacher, which I won't get into.

I can only be left questioning the ability of SOME teachers and their dedication to students. Like anything, there are always people who don't make the cut.
