how i'd scratch the empties, desperate to hear you make the sound that you found for me

 i have always wondered
about the legal tape
regarding the little tm circle
for instance, what if i opened a McSeanald's?
it would fail within minutes,
because i would be a horrible business man
i think jim bryson said something about
wondering what would happen if he
started a tom horton's coffee (instead of tim horton's)
or maybe called himself "the beach boy"
i guess i was thinking about this kind of thing
while trying to write lyrics
i feel like anything i could ever want to say in a song
has been said already, better than i could ever do
everyone just keeps reinventing the same songs over and over
and recycling chord changes
then calling them something new
then there is the other end of the spectrum
of trying so hard to do something original and new that it ends up
sounding like me making dookie
i wish that, when webster was inventing words
he would have come up with something for "ridiculously fucking indescribable
and impossible to articulate"
webster, you bastard
then i would only have to use one word for everything
i think jim bryson and i should open a small mart together
or maybe a wall smart
and take small business back from those bastards!
i say bastards, but i know we have all
gone there at 2 a.m. to ride the kiddie bikes
and play 20 questions
because there was nothing better to do

maybe i will just reinvent the entire beatles catalog for the rest of my life

this song is really important, i swear.
