Okay - No Memes!

Okay. This isn't a meme, I promise.

This is a mini-life update!

I'm currently working on packing. Why? Because as some of you know, my husband finally managed to get himself a job! A real job, not a part time job... A real job with decent pay and health insurance and what not. Yay!

So we will be eventually moving. Probably around the end of March. Back to the Bloomsburg area (which makes me ridiculously stupidly happy). This is much goodness.

Other life goodness includes: graduating, Christmas, and New Years.

So let's talk about those, shall we?

Graduation. Fantastic. Boring as shit, but fantastic. The culmination of four and a half long years of dedication and work and stress and frustration: an hour and a half of bullshit plus half an hour of people walking across the stage (roughly). A diploma COVER with a picture of the university president (she's retiring and we never liked you anyway) and Carver Hall at night (complete with half of the commons, lovely) and having the retiring university president as your key note speaker? So lame. Hell, Jacob got a guy that talked about how VIDEO GAMES are AWESOME and good for children. I got weepy Dr. Kozloff saying how fond her memories of Bloomsburg will be. Ugh. Well, either way, I graduated (Magna Cum Laude, even) and had some fun (with the people I was sitting with - I'm so going to miss some of them). Then Jake brought me home and we had a party thing. Wings and burgers and munchy foods. It was good. Later that evening we went out for drinks with Rowena, Jason, and Ian and that was pretty fun too. :)

Then Jacob started his job and I spent the next weekend baking like crazy. That was good, actually. :)

Then Christmas. Let's start with Christmas Eve.

See, every Christmas Eve we got to my in-law's, which is fun, actually. I LIKE my in-laws. However, we then go to my mother-in-law's mothers houses (yes, mothers, she has two - her adopted mom and her biological mom). Unfortunately we go to crazy hick biological mom's house first. This year there was food (always a plus), but then we also had to deal with the crazy hick relatives (extreme negative). We dealt with the first cousins once removed (children of my husband's cousins): one set are teenage high school dropouts with about the same level of intelligence as a rock, judging by how they talk and the other set are two younger boys, one of which was a snot to everybody other than his dad and grandmother, and one that was absolutely delightful. Did I mention those two have different moms? I can see why the attitudes are different. Anyway.... we put up with that.... then my husband's drunk uncle called (he's never met him, thankfully). And everybody cried (I'm not sure why, however. He was obviously drunk (which is, apparently, his default state of existence) and he hasn't come to actually SEE anyone in like a decade). Then we got to listen to grandma's husband bitch about how his son from a previous marriage was in jail and husband's cousin bitch about her fiancee is in jail. Lovely. Then we opened some presents and hightailed it out of there. Thank god. I hate going there and I only do it to keep my mother-in-law happy.

Then we went to lesbian grandmother's house. This is my mother-in-law's adopted mom and she is a million times more awesome than her biological mom. There was also food there and alcohol, which is good too. We ate, drank, and visited for a bit. Grandmother's partner, Pat, attempted to get their dog drunk too. It was pretty funny.

Then we came back to my in-law's house where we ate a bit more and opened gifts. This is always fun, because my mother-in-law finds the best things to give people. :D Plus I love shopping for gifts and getting people things and wrapping them and making them pretty. <3 So this part of the evening is always good. After all that, we loaded everything into Jake's car and we came home and unloaded it all and put it under our tree. Then we slept, because it was already like 1AM and Jake had been up since 5:30AM because he had worked that day.

Christmas Day was a usual Christmas Day for us. We ate breakfast (french toast - yum!) and got dressed and then we went out to the living room to open gifts. Not as much fun as at my in-laws (my parents are grumpy people and I can't wait until hubby and I move out and have our own place - March cannot get here soon enough for my tastes) and we still had a fairly good time. Then hubby and I went back to bed for a bit. Then, when we got up, we made Christmas dinner (ham, sweet potatoes, etc). And we ate that. Then back to the in-laws for dessert and gift opening with my father-in-law's parents (who brought gifts back from North Carolina where father-in-law's sister lives). We visited for a while, but we had to leave early because hubby had to go back to work the next day.

Then on Saturday the 29th we had Christmas wtih my mom's family. This was the usual ordeal with some extra drama for good measure. See, my one cousin lives in Orlando, so we set up a webcam so that she and her boyfriend could be part of the activities. And everything was going smoothly until she found out that her boyfriend's parents had bought them show tickets for that day during the exact time that we were going to open gifts. So dinner got rushed a bit and my aunt was still late (nothing new, even though it was her daughter that we were rushing about for). We ate and set up the webcam and it took a while for my cousins to get it to work, but finally it worked. And we were able to open all the gifts without too much problem. Then people visited for a while and we had dessert and we all programmed our phone numbers into the cell phone that my aunt got for our grandparents and we showed Pap how to use it. And he demonstrated that he understood it by calling my dad's cell phone at 1AM that night. :p

Christmas was pretty good to us this year, both hubby and I. Hubby, however, will not post an entry unless I breathe down his neck and make him do it, so I will list the things he got here too.

Things we got:
Clothing: Shirts, pants, and socks for me. Dress shirts, ties, t-shirts, and cargo pants for hubby.

Kitchen things: Knife set, turkey roaster, bakeware, various utensils (pasta spoon, spatula, ladle, pastry brushes, wooden spoons, an ice cream scoop, two whisks, and a meat fork of doom), blender (hubby's, actually :p), wine glasses (awesome ones), set of shot glasses (hubby's), set of beer glasses (hubby's), set of tumbler type glasses (hubby's), yellow dishware with leaf pattern on it, mug with a polar bear on it (hubby's), fondue pot, salsa bowl shaped like a pepper, mortar and pestle.

Bath things: Shower gels (candy apple and vanilla for me, axe for hubby), bath bombs, salts and other such things for me, aftershave for hubby, facial mask for me

Electronic things: The Universe Season 1 DVD set (hubby's), Premonition (mine), Dawn of Magic (hubby's), God of War (hubby's), new flash drives, Spiderman 3 DVD set for hubby, Guitar Hero (via Gamestop Gift Cards)

Food things: Food basket with potato chips and beef jerky (hubby's, although he is sharing it with me), flavored pretzels (hubby), hershey kisses (mine!), tons of itty-bitty bottles of alcohol (hubby's), can of macadamia nuts (hubby's, and he won't share these!)

Other things: Homemade Afghans from father-in-law's mom, tons of jewelery (mine), car cleaning kit (hubby), lamp in the shape of spiderman's head (hubby's), a nifty door plaque and ornaments with an Irish blessing on them

Awesome Gift: A bellydancing costume from my mother-in-law. See, I got bellydance workout DVDs a while back and going to be learning how to do it. So my hubby and his mom thought this would be good incentive to get me to do them. It's pretty awesome.

Continuing on... New Year's Eve!

New Year's Eve was pretty cool. We had the in-laws over. I made tons and tons of food. o.o Seriously. And hubby mixed drinks and what not. We ate and drank and played board games (Battle of the Sexes and Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus board game). We found that the women make better men than the guys make women because we won twice. :D And we watched the ball drop at midnight. It was good. :)

And today we worked on taking all the Christmas stuff down. It's been pretty crazy around here lately. Lin's back to school though, so it's less crazy. Now it's time for me to start job hunting!
