Seasons

Every year, there's a point when I realise the seasons have changed.

Winter...is when the air gets exceptionally sharp, and you can smell snow in it (even if it doesn't eventually snow). With my parents, we had coal fires running through winter, and I'd sit in front of the coals when everyone else had gone to bed, warming myself and looking out the window.

Spring I normally notice when the cherry blossoms come out, because they're my favourite part of spring. I used to count how many trees there were on the way from my house to work (I think there were eleven though I always forgot), and it saddened me when I looked at the roundabout near our work building a few months ago and realised they'd cut the three that were on there down. :(

I'm not sure what thing tells me summer has arrived, but I think everything becomes more vibrant. Summer makes me want to do the things I used to do, and go out walking, or playing in a river. Maybe climbing a tree. Often I don't get around to it through pure laziness, but I want to all the same.

Autumn...Autumn I always notice it's changed when I'm driving. And suddenly I notice I'm driving through these big piles of leaves! Normally I've seen them swirled up by the car before me, but that's how I notice it, and then I'm on the lookout for falling leaves. I just went to the shop, which was nice, because I rarely leave the house during the day. It hasn't settled into autumn crispness just yet, and it was relatively warm. Then coming back, I happened to look up, just as a gust of wind hit the tree ahead of me, and loads of golden red leaves detached themselves and started fluttering down. Regardless of where I am, or what I'm doing, I always find that beautiful.

Edit!

As pointed out, Bluebells! I always squee when I see them. My next door neighbour has a fair amount in her front garden, both blue and lilac. And my other thing of spring...the thing I see first while it's still almost winter, is Snowdrops. <3!!!!
