today my mom woke me up at about 8am and told me to turn on CNN
what has happened in london today is absolutely terrible
here is the latest story from the BBC online website
everyone in london takes the underground, or 'the tube' as they call it
when i was there a couple months ago, albeit only for two days, i took those trains everywhere
i traveled almost the same routes, passing, stopping, and changing trains at each of the locations that were attacked
liverpool station was where i lost my messenger bag the day before i was supposed to come home
and where i got to witness an above-ground train conductor argue with a
couple disgruntled tourists
(which is actually one of my favorite
stories to tell)
and on one occasion jeff and i rode on the upper level of a double
decker bus because one of the
underground stations had closed early
that night for maintenance
the only danger that crossed my mind the entire time was the chance of getting mugged or pick-pocketed
i could never have imagined the events that the people of london have had to endure today
and i think that it is even more remorseful that these attacks were most likely motivated by Great Britain's support for America
although i do not believe the war in Iraq is a just one, it is my
personal belief that no matter what the political issues involved,
no one deserves to have this happen to themselves, their friends and family, or their fellow citizens and human beings
although it would be terrible had this happened at any time, i think it is also disheartening that it happen during the G8 conference
as the leaders of nations were gathering to discuss measures to diminish world poverty and AIDS
my heart goes out to every one in london, it was a privilege for me to visit such a wonderful city
and i hope that everyone there can feel safe again very soon
