Memories, all alone in the moonlight.

Last year at the end of 2005 I (Emilia) posted a year-long recap of fun things from the oh-five. It is now the beginning of 2007 but better late than never, I always say!! Let's ring back in the oh-six if only for a brief few moments of splendidosity and nostalgiosity.

1. We, (the Somethin' Hots) along with Emma and Hannah rung in the new year with The Avett Brothers at the Neighborhood Theatre, one of the most exhilarating and fantastic times of our collective and individual lives.
2. Meanwhile, in school land, we researched, visited, and applied to various colleges across the state of North Carolina.
3. Also meanwhile, in corporate land, we held down our jobs at Maria's Catering for Dummies and Cheesecakes by Alex.
4. Abby and I continued to share every single class period together much to the demise of teachers such as Mrs. Daye and Mr. Dalton who surely had quite enough of us by the end.
5. Laura held down IB Art with the help of Al Irish.
6. Misa was still around and we maintained our loving friendship for a brief few months before she departed for New Orleans, but probably before that. There was, afterall, a fire in the woods.
7. French videos! I'm not sure that we made one in 2006 but if we did it was certainly a hit. Emma, do you remember?
8. Um, February happened. We still went to Jazzy Mondays sometimes. We hung out with Beaconwood & Co. sometimes. We went to Cookout a lot, but not exculsively in February. None of these things are necessarily exclusive to February.
9. March 3, 2006. Hello, Avetts! Welcome back to North Carolina after months on the long, hard road. Bob, it is National Kiss Day! Here is a giant chocolate kiss and three kisses on the cheek. Let's go backstage or something.
10. Senior Prom oh oh oh!! We got manicures. We got pedicures. We took pictures on the stairs. We took pictures in the living room. We went out for a fancy dinner. We walked around downtown. As Anthony might say, it was all simply tweedle deedle deedle! Thad may or may not have taken a ride around the dance floor on Turnerstory's shoulders. Or visa-versa. We spent the night at L. Holt's house; some of us slept on the Mattressbreen, some of us slept on the bathroom floor with the dog.
11. Band Trip! Abby and I and also Lesley spent four days having fun in the sun at Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. We spent quality time with good friends such as Anthony, Dabond, Chris Wong, Dr. Stuber, and possibly Joshstory. On the busride home Anthony pulled down James G's pants and we all saw his manly parts. But I reckon that could have gone unmentioned.
12. It is April, I believe! By this point in the history of our lives, we had all been accepted to college which offered a spot of relief and a irreversible case of Senioritis. As in we stopped doing our school work, entirely. Spring Break was in there somewhere and we drove to Danville, Virginia with Lesley to go to Value City. We may or may not have stopped to take pictures with the Welcome to Virginia sign, covering up the last two letters with our hands, hailing to all the weary travellers: Welcome to Vigrin.
13. MERLEFEST. We borrowed my mom's minivan for the weekend and drove to Wilkesboro to see our beloved Avetts and others. Being of the utmost festival-going wisdomosity, we camped out at the VFW Campground for two nights. We even set up the tent ourselves without any instruction. As we finally arrived at the festival grounds, we could here the Avetts playing on the main stage and our mad dash from the entrance to the stage was much like a pilgrimage to Mecca. Also, I found twenty dollars. Lesley came up for the day on Friday and we hung out with our famous Beaconwood friends and they signed Laura's hat for no reason at all. We also saw The Duhks, Doc Watson, Foufoule, Bob Weir and The Waybacks, Chatham County Line, etc. No need to list everyone. We danced in the dance tent and Lesley made friends with an old man.
14. On Saturday we packed up our campsite and went back to the festival for a while before departing for Greensboro to pick up Lesley and then on to Raleigh to see the Avetts and the Lincoln Theatre. We were very tired, sunburned, bewildered and consequently filmed for a music video. That was not awesome oh wait yeah it was.
15. Good Lord, what's next, oh yes, May. The beginning of May was a blur of AP and IB exams, skipping school, and preparing to graduate. And maybe Senior Tea.
16. May 12, 2006 brought the Avett Brothers to Greensboro for a special appearance at BB's which we naturally skipped half a day of school for and then a magical evening at the ill-fated Flyin' A. Quite possibly one of the best shows of all time, sans The Mad Tea Party. There are no words and that is perfectly okay. The three of us spent the night in my bed.
17. Here's a fun thing: Grimsley High School was taken under siege by an unidentified gunman hiding in the woods, or something, and we were lockdown'd off campus with our dear friend Chris Coughlin. It was very scary at the time, very funny in retrospect.
18. Okay, party time! Graduation snuck up on us bringing with it parties, no school, Project Graduation, summertime. We had a sleepover the night before our last day of class and walked to school with Matt'n'Gabe. So many parties, quite a lot of fun. Project Graduation, took some pictures with people we aren't friends with and stayed up all night long. We did not get any free stuff, but other people did.
19. Summer, Abby went to Europe! We hung out a lot and did ridiculous things. We saw the Avetts in High Point and Winston-Salem. We took a few small roadtrips, we had a few sleepovers, we may or may not have been given free bread at a Grasshoppers game and then put it all over peoples' cars.
20. Abby and I went to Floydfest with Cameron, Eric, and Brynn. We got very lost along the way and quite possibly wound up on Five Mile Mountain on our way home. We also did some tribal dancing with Brynn.
21. I had a birthday and we drove to Asheville where we ran into Liz, Christine and T McD. We stayed up most of the night dancing around the house. Then we came home and I shared a birthday party with Eric. Why? I have no idea.
22. I moved to college and then back home within 24 hours, as the Appalachian State Marching Mountaineers do not support flutes. Who knew? Not I. Back home for a week before moving in for good.
23. We all moved into college. Oh goddy god god.
24. An Avett Jubilee! We arrived so early that the gates were not open. We arrived before the event staff. We are insane. But what a day! So many bands, so little water to drink. Then we drove back to college.
25. Um, college sucked a lot. But then the Avetts came to Boone and cheered me up, then we saw them in Winston-Salem the next day, then Abby and Laura saw them in Dobson the next day.
26. Then we saw them in Greensboro with the Violent Femmes. Bob talked to Laura on the phone. 25 and 26 may be in the wrong order.
27. Then we drove to Wilmington with Chris Plott to see them one last time. That was hands-down one of the best ever and we talked to Seth for a very long time. Abby danced and sang for him.
28. Page/Grimsley! Everyone come home! Thank God!
29. We came home often, actually, so it was okay. Abby and I went to Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival for free thanks to our friend Sunday Morning Rehab. I stayed in Raleigh for the weekend and we hung out with Ben Tut.
30. I feel as though I am forgetting important things. Mostly, we saw each other fairly frequently and we all survived our first semester of college.
31. Thanksgiving, what happened? We went to some dinner parties and hung out with some friends and probably had a sleepover or two.
32. It is time for Christmas, thank you baby Jesus for being born.
33. Beautiful Star! Our friends are famous.
34. We drove around all day delivering notes to our friends' houses.
35. We, um, had Christmas.
36. December 29th, time to see the Avetts again! We knitted scarves outside the Lincoln Theatre and Laura took sweet polaroid pictures. I am losing momentum.
37. December 30th, last night at the Flyin' A with Langhorne Slim. Abby gave Langhorne feathers from her birds and he was very excited and it was amazing.
38. New Year's Eve, we come full circle! Back to the Neighborhood Theatre with Emma and Hannah and so many other new Avett fans to welcome 2007. It was an amazing night full of new and old friends, smiling faces, Avett Brothers, plastic flowers, the Everybodyfields, more than one drunken slut, and our dear friend Chad. What a way to end and begin a new year!

It is quite likely that I have forgotten many a thing in our 2006 adventures, but I am memory'd out. Happy belated new year, everyone!
Love,
Emilia, Abby and Laura
