Supernatural 3.02 - The Kids Are Alright

1. FREAKY. It's 2am. Don't do this to me. I am a chicken. But seriously, haven't been this freaked out in a while, even though I know exactly what's gonna happen.
2. Sam and Bobby are going behind Dean's back? Ooh, let's wait for the fallout when Dean finds out.
3. Gumby and Pokey.
4. "You don't know about Dean? The Dean? Best-night-of-my-night Dean?" Oh yes, we know.
5. Ben = mini!Dean. That guy is way too smart and way too cool and way too Dean.
6. Dean knocking over the trashcan after he did the math.
7. Ruby. She's actually slightly cool, in a warped kinda way. "Because I'm interested in you." "Why?" "Because you're tall."
8. Ha! Mary's little secret.
9. The girl, and the mirror image. FREAKY. I  jumped.
10. Another creepy kid. Anyone sensing a pattern here.
11. Dean and Ben interaction. "Only bitches send a grown-up." Do eight-year-olds really say that nowadays? And I just knew that Dean was gonna teach him to fight. Hee. Ben can really kick some ass. He's got be Dean's kid.
12. And caught in the act. Guilty faces!
13. The hug is so adorable. You know something, Dean would be a really good father, the kind all the other kids are jealous of.
14. The faces in the mirror never get any less creepy.
15. Changelings. Awesome!
16. Oh no. Not Ben.
17. Oh yes. Ben.
18. The real estate woman!
19. Ben helping all the other kids first. I guess the hero complex runs in the family (if Ben is Dean's, that is). And the kid is pretty smart, using the jacket and the paint bucket.
20. Dean and Sam being tossed around, FTW.
21. So. Some biker guy.
22. "I swear you look disappointed."
23. "It's not my life, never will be. " "A guy in my situation, you start to think, you know, I'm gonna be gone one day, what am I leaving beside a car?"
24. "I would have been proud to be his dad."
25. "And it's not my life." That is the sound of my heart breaking into a million pieces.
26. WOW. Ruby=demon. Didn't see the one coming. AT ALL. And she can help to save Dean. Whoa.

It's nearly 4am, but yes, I have to make a post. Goes to show how awesome this episode is. I like the last one, but something didn't feel right then. This one, in comparison, reminds me why I love the show so much.

First of all, CREEPY. I love the scary level of this episode. I haven't been this freaked out in a long time, maybe since Asylum. Ah, the good times. The teaser was very scary, perhaps because they were kinda dragging it out, and you're anticipating the blood and gore, but you just don't know when it would happen. Good job on that, Supernatural people. And the mirror images. Oh man. I nearly screamed at the very first one. Never got used to the ones after either. CREEPY, I tell ya.

Another Dean-centric episode, so obviously, we're gonna talk about Dean. We always talk about Dean. That last scene with him and Lisa, about his life? Killed me dead. See that vulnerability on his face? The disappointment? The resignation? Did you catch that sad nod after Lisa told him Ben wasn't his.? It was almost as if he was saying "Good for him. Being a Winchester sucks anyway. He's better off." He's afraid to leave any connections behind, afraid to have people grieve for him.

I hate that he can never say those things to Sam; he can never admit he has his regrets. Dean always wanted a family; he never got it, and it looks to him like he never will.

It almost seems to me, that this whole Dean-is-going-to-die-in-one-year issue is driving the brothers apart a little. Sam's working with Bobby behind Dean's back, and Sam never told Dean about meeting Ruby, or that little thing about their mother. Dean also seems awfully careful to avoid talking about his feelings with his brothers. But then again, Dean rarely talks about his feelings. Maybe it's just the lack of Dean/Sam interaction in this episode.

And about her. Yes, HER. Definitely not what I've expected. I re-watched the diner scene, and I realized how much she reminded me of Meg. Should have picked up on that earlier, but hey, Kripke sure pulled a fast one on us. I'm completely surprised at how he managed to keep that one under wraps. No spoilers on that at all! About her actually being a demon, well, I'm still unsure about it. At least she's not Jo 2.0, but is she Meg 2.0? That would be meaningless. However, she did want to help the brothers. And I do like her bringing back Mary's storyline. I was a little disappointed with last season's finale because the death of YED was anti-climatic. After all the hoopa with Sam's destiny, I was craving for much more than what the finale offered. That little thing about Mary should bring the mythology right back on track. As for Ruby herself, I'm still reserving judgement. Need more information. What's her role in the story? Is she really a good demon? How is her relationship with Sam going to develop? (Yeah, Kripke, not a love interest? I'll just wait and see.)

One last point, children are creepy.

4.30am. Need sleep. Now. Damn, I miss doing these long Supernatural reaction posts. Welcome back, everyone.

Jared, I love that expression on you.

Can you imagine, opening your door and seeing this?

Caught!

HAHAHAHA. I'm just so amused by this.
