Popura Taneshima is a hard-worker, first and foremost. She does all of her homework, and she maintains good grades. She’s popular in school and has plenty of friends. She also works part-time as a restaurant, Wagnaria, where she is known for being an efficient waitress. She rarely fumbles in her duty and strives hard not to make mistakes--in fact, she insisted that the damage log be placed high on the wall so she can’t write on it, thus encouraging her not to accidentally break a cup. She’s also very eager to work and friendly with all of her customers.
Named after the tall, majestic Poplar tree...Popura is extremely short. She has several complexes about it. She drinks calcium every day to grow taller and constantly checks her height. Her employees also pick on her for it, which causes her to become startled, suddenly really pouty, or angry. Fortunately for everyone involved, after being made fun of, Popura usually bounces back quickly and goes straight back to work. However, this happens on such a frequent basis, that people have a difficult time taking her seriously. Her size doesn’t help any, and she’s often ignored because she’s cute or compared to an elementary schooler. It also doesn’t help that she’s quick to flee for others to help when she’s being picked on.
When she’s not crying or complaining about being teased, Popura is a great friend to have. Her coworker, Inami, is androphobic and punches boys on sight, but Popura constantly encourages her and covers for her when all of the customers are male. If she finds you dropped something, she’ll return it, and she’s the first to think of fun group activities. She goes the extra mile to make sure everyone is included, even the mean ones. Maya, a waitress in Wagnaria, doesn’t speak until the thirteenth episode...but she’s shown in the background in every one. After having a fun day out, though, Popura makes sure to remember her and brings her a dessert.
She’s also, unfortunately, very childish. She’s naive enough to fall for pranks such as “Eat a gecko to grow taller!” and gets spooked easily by horror stories to the point where just saying something in a scary tone will frighten her at the right moment. She also wears glasses while she studies, just because they make her feel smarter. She tires herself out quickly, being the type of girl who will fall asleep after a long day’s car ride. All-in-all, she’s kind of like the girl next door--she works hard, she’s friendly and cheery...she’s just a seventeen year old girl who looks much younger than she is.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
+Very friendly! Tries to be friends with everyone, even if they’re mean to her at first.
+An excellent worker! She’s a very good server, and she’s self-motivated. She rarely messes up, and she sets her own goals.
+Very cute. It works to her advantage more often than one would think.
+Actually a good student, especially in math and science!
+Always encourages her friends to try their hardest.
-It can be easy to get Popura to start moping. She gets upset over silly things. However, she is quick to recover from these upsets...they just happen frequently.
-Her height. Though I can’t find an exact amount, she is very small. Thusly, she’s easily picked on and overlooked. I estimate her not to be exactly a little person, but around 4 ft 10 or 11.
-Naive and easily fooled: When she’s told eating a gecko is good for height growth...she believes it.

Hey, everyone! Listen here!
[On the screen today is a breathless, tired Popura. She’s been working hard at something for a while. She’s also wearing a waitress’s uniform.]
Um...there are a lot of people in Goldenrod, so we’re having trouble keeping up with the customers. So if you’re looking for a part-time job, please consider us! It’s a lot of fun! The pay is good, and you’ll still have a lot of time for training.
[On the screen, someone stops and stares at her a short distance away.]
Ah, just one second! I think we might have someone!
[She runs over to him, leaving the Pokégear in her Gloom’s hands. They have a short exchange...at some point, though, the man says something to completely startle Popura and points somewhere off-screen. It’s another minute before she’s back...though her eyes are tearing up and she’s extremely flustered.]
I-I’m not lost! I really am a part-time waitress who is seventeen years old! R-right? I don’t look like an elementary school student, right?! He asked me where my parents were...l-listen! Please decide to work at the inn! I’ll train you all very well!

This was just about the worst situation that Popura Taneshima could have ever thought of. She and her Oddish got along really well, for the most part. Like any Pokémon, though, they got into fights sometimes. It would have been easier if Popura was the kind of person who would just return her Pokémon, but she wasn’t. She firmly believed that friends and partners should be able to work everything out. There was just one small problem. Her Oddish wouldn’t listen to her.
Also, her Oddish figured out that he could very easily jump out of Popura’s reach.
“L-Lettuce! Come down, please!”
To anyone walking by, it would be quite the unusual sight. Popura, a short girl seventeen years of age, could not reach her own Oddish who was simply standing on top of a tall counter in the Pokécenter. Most people would be able to just reach up and grab him, but Oddish had decided to stand on the far edge...and Popura could barely reach over it.
“W-we can work out our differences! I mean it! We’re friends right?”
Standing on her very tip-toes and trying her hardest at stretching her arm to try and pull him to her, she was beginning to feel some of the strain. Not only that, but everyone was looking at her like she was some sort of mother who wouldn’t buy their kid a candy bar and now they were throwing a tantrum. Naturally, this made Popura even more embarrassed and flustered. Red in the face, she made one last grab attempt...only to have the smiling Oddish walk further down the counter without a word.
Unfortunately, Popura had put her all into that grab, and she lost her footing. With a startled cry of surprise, she fell backwards, landing on her bottom. Sniffling, she slowly stood up and stared at her Oddish, who was still making the same sadistic smile.
“F-fine! I’ll buy you that special food you wanted, okay? Let’s just go, please.”
