Okay, so I said I wouldn't go give them any money for this movie, but I was bored as fuck.
It wasn't that bad, though. I don't really consider myself a "trekkie", but I do appreciate TOS and the movies (until Generations) and Wrath of Khan and the Undiscovered Country will always be in my top 20 movies list. I was really not looking forward to seeing them(J.J. Abrams) totally screw up the series, but they did something that made it, well, a bit plausible. The movie won't ever be as good as the originals, but it's not like I'm going to totally strike it from any canon like I did with the SW prequels. e__e Too bad Abrams didn't make this before Lucas had the bright idea to go back to his franchise...
Anyways, the movie was good. For the characters, I guess I was trying to look for the original actors in them, so I had a hard time believing they were who they were supposed to be. I guess Bones was the best, but I think I "bonded" with Kirk more than I did in TOS. *shrug* Spock was way too emotional for my taste (and wtf, Uhura? They totally canonized one of my guilty-pleasure OTPs. :O), but like I said, they alternate universe'd it enough that the whole thing was believable and kinda cool. It makes me wonder about the original universe, though... Now that Spock is here, wtf is going on there? I haven't seen Generations in a while, but was that one an alternate universe too? What's going on here?! :O
Ugh, but off the plot again. The visuals were pretty cool, and there were only a few moments of confusion in the space-battles. That thirty seconds or so of the Red Matter about to implode was kinda unneeded (it felt like a few minutes. :|), and that part in the beginning with Kirk and the car was totally retarded. Was it supposed to show us that oh, he doesn't have a dad so he's just going to be as rebellious as possible? I didn't really feel that from it. :| Meh, either way... I think if they decide to do a sequel with all the same people, I might go see that one, too. :\ And yeah, that bit about Kirk's father was totally heart-wrenching. :( I think I was more interested in his past history than Kirk's. *sigh* And what was up with Kirk's sudden usage of nicknames? Everyone knew exactly who he was talking to/about, even though he'd only just met some of these people (i.e., Scotty).
I still love that Terminator/NIN trailer. And Transformers looks like a load of shite. e__e
