just because we use cheats doesn't mean we're not smart.
i don't see what anyone can see in anyone else.
but you.
ok, now that we've had a little musical interlude, let's move on, shall we?
so as you may (or may not?) know, i spent most of last week down in charleston (most beautiful city in america!). after i turned in my paper on the emergent church, i packed my bags and headed south for a few days. i got in that evening somewhat tired, but stopped off at GEL to see some old co-workers, which was awesome. i went on to my mom and aunt jan's house for the evening and tried to go ahead and rest up for the week...
wednesday, after a couple of errands, i went up to the church for lunch. we had quite the party! it was me; john, tj, and stephanie schley; pastor bill (thompson); brother todd billman; and alison stinchcomb. we had a blast at los arcos; the mexican food there is so much better than here in the thrill. sorry. it just is.
after lunch, we went back to the church and i began planning a lesson for that evening. and youth group? that was rather odd. it was weird walking in and only knowing half the kids there. and that was just the high schoolers! but we had a blast and went out for some ice cream afterwards at ye olde fashioned ice cream. after playing some mario kart with josh, i went back home.
thursday. um...thursday...oh yeah! josh picked me up so i could get my brakes done at gerald's tires, and we grabbed some breakfast and visited my dad. now, visiting my dad isn't necessarily bad, per se. but it's just awkward. we've never been especially close, and conversations usually just end up becoming "so, what have you been watching lately?" and because of his last stroke, conversation take a bit longer. oh well. anyway, after i got my jeep back, josh and i went back goose creek and watched juno. then i got to see adam and shaina for a bit, went to hillary's strings recital, and then (skipping LOST) i headed to the waffle house! it was good to see heather again, and the thursday night crew was a blast. there were a few people i had hoped could make it, but thanks so much to those who could be there!
friday, i headed back out to the creek for lunch with john at the royal china buffet. after some good worship music with john, (and talking to alison and pastor bill again!) i went to see josh. on the way, shaina told me she was waiting to hear back from her sister, so she could go to her doctor. so i agreed to take her. as i pull up to josh's place to pick him up, my (ex)stepmom calls me and asks me to take my dad to the hospital because he just had another stroke. well, i figured i'm already heading that direction, why not? so i go pick up shaina, then my dad, and then proceed to sit at the hospital until about 815 that night. now, see, the thing that upsets me is that my dad knows his health is going bad, but still he continues to work in the yard in the heat of midday. and this is his third stroke! one would think that he'd at least TRY to be a little safer, health wise. so, let's just say that friday was...awkward.
saturday, i got to spend some time with mom and aunt jan, which was really nice. it was good to just relax a little and enjoy some family time. that afternoon, i went to wild wings with josh, shaina, and alison (which never disappoints!), followed by some coffee at B&N, where we saw trey, wesley, jessica, and sarah. so, saturday was pretty darn awesome. too bad adam had to work.
sunday was a sweet worship service. pastor bill spoke on the last of the beatitudes, and it was powerful, indeed. always a blessing to hear that man preach. i got to hang with the kids for a bit afterwards, and then met up with stephanie for lunch. after seeing how much the mall had changed, i headed back to pack my bags and get back on the road.
there were so many people i didn't get to see, which breaks my heart. it's just so hard to see everyone in such a small amount of time. next time, i might just have to say "this is where i am. come see me." so to those of you i didn't get to spend time with, i'm sorry, i love you, and i do hope that we'll get to see each other soon!
that being said, i am exhausted. i am going to bed now. i need it.
shalom!
