yeah i fight authority, authority always wins.
ugh. i hate feeling this way. being sick, that is. i think it wouldn't be so bad if i just didn't feel so tired and physically drained. i can deal with coughing and sniffles. no problem. i barely have the strength (or willpower) to even get out of bed. dang.
well, i'd better. cuz i have papers to write.
anyway, i haven't done this in a while, so i thought i'd do a movi review for y'all. here goes...
so i went and saw
expelled yesterday. and i'm not going to lie, i walked into the movie already supporting it, because i truly do believe in
intelligent design. heck, to be even more direct, i'm a six-day creationist. but i'll let you in on a little secret, this movie does NOT push creationism.
in fact, the movie doesn't really "push" intelligent design much at all. if anything, the movie questions why won't academia listen to ID? there are many interviews throughout the movie, usually interspersed with short snippets from old b movies and television. most reviews i have read so far see this as childish and demeaning, but i personally found the inserts to be little more than comic relief in tense moments.
another claim that i have noticed to be taken out of context is
evolution and
darwinism. (the thing that i find hilarious is that evolution has never been proven, hence it's being called "evolution theory." however, if anything is mentioned that counteracts with evolution, this theory somehow automatically becomes solid fact. i have yet to figure this point out...) in the movie, stein points out that darwinian ideals help lead to facsism and even nazi germany. now, this is a bold statment indeed, but almost every other review states that stein claims that evolution leads to these ends. the irony is that stein is attacked for falsly reporting his side, when the mainstream media completely distorts what stein says.
the problem, however, is that the fatalistic view of darwin can actually support the atrocities of the holocaust. if someone truly believes in darwinist evolution, then that person cannot logically disagree with what hitler did. they might be able to agree the extremes he took, but not his conclusion.
some of the evolutionist scientist interviewed theories to explain life could be created when there was no life. these theories contain sporadic cells that cluster on the back of crystals (with somehow became every form of life on the planet) or aliens seeded the planet (but of course, these aliens had evolved as well...). somehow, i personally cannot see how these theories are easier to believe that an intelligent Creator. if anything, the alien theory gives credit to scientology, a religion created by a science fiction writer.
here's the thing: scientists believe this is an attack from religion on science. the problem is that everything takes faith. it takes faith to believe in science, just as it takes faith to believe in God. one does not, and should not, negate the other.
in an early interview, the director had stated that any time there was a dramatic PARADIGM shift in science, it has always been met with widespread criticism and attack. s does this mean that a new science is on the way? i guess we'll find out.
in other words, go see the movie. even if you don't necessarily agree. but be willing to ask questions and not just accept what people tell you is true.
