Random influxes of strangers in April and July... we should expect that again in early October, I believe.  The weekend of curses also appears to change its timing along with the season.  Can we expect the third weekend to be cursed during the autumn months?  Perhaps a tangible pattern would be asking too much of the deities.

Understandable, of course, but why does it exist? Why on earth would it be necessary to obliterate an entire city?

I don't know. It shouldn't be necessary. I guess it started out as pure scientific pursuit for the next big thing. And when the Commies are shifting their interests too it ends up being an arms race.

Right, I see a bit of sense in it. Can you also explain why modern scientists are attempting to control antimatter? I can't for the life of me conceive of a situation in which I'd care to create something that, by virtue of its sheer existence, can destroy the entire planet.

No, no... not at all like that.

Although I did read about it in a book from the City's library. I suppose it could be applicable to some other world.
