So, hey, there's a snippet from a post-CoE story under the cut.
London was a mess, afterward. The rest of the whole bloody world was as well, but London was its epicenter, the feverish site of the primary infection.
"We should release the footage," Gwen said, grim and faintly nauseated. She needed a cup of weak tea and some toast. She needed a chair that wouldn't press on her bruises, but there didn't seem to be any in the whole of Whitehall. She needed Jack to be handling the clean up, but Jack had sent an email two days prior saying he needed some time to get his head on straight. Gwen rather thought there wasn't enough time out there. "We should just do it," she said. "Let the world know what sort of bastards we elected."
Agent Johnson raised an eyebrow.
"We should," said Gwen, bitterly. "But we won't." She'd had this conversation at least six times a day for the last four days, with Rhys, with Johnson, with Lois. She wished she could talk about it with Ianto, but he was in the morgue and wasn't much for conversation. It always came to the same end, anyway, because to tear the world down required that one have something better to replace it. At least, that would be the responsible way to do it. But Torchwood was hardly innocent in this, and Gwen wasn't certain she could organize a proper coup d'état without more extensive resources.
"No," Johnson said, "we won't." She paused, and her mouth tilted into a very small smile. It wasn't a comfortable expression. More like the satisfied smirk of a tiger who'd mauled its keeper, and was planning on having a bit more fun before returning to its cage. "Not unless we need to."
"And we won't need to," Gwen said, moving to stand as the door opened.
"No," agreed Johnson and followed Gwen inside.
"Madame Secretary," Gwen began, "My name is Gwen Cooper, and I'm going to tell you what will happen next."
Torchwood might not be innocent, but it didn't let infections fester.
Don't worry about the Ianto-in-the-morgue comment. I have plans. He's still dead, but I have plans.
Any thoughts? I could still use a beta on this one.
