I'm so very, very late to the bandwagon on this one.
1. Wow, so: Torchwood. I'd heard that it was awesome, and that there was some lovely canon slash, and yet I resisted because-- I don't know. I've never watched Doctor Who in my life and I had no idea who the hell Jack Harkness was, but. Clearly that doesn't matter, because I've been mainlining all the Torchwood I can find on YouTube for the past couple of days, and now I see that I was a fool to try and resist.
2. My infatuation is mainly due to Ianto Jones, I think. I mean, Captain Jack is lovely and dashing, but-- eh. There's something about the way he smiles that makes me think of Tom Cruise, and that just creeps me the hell out. (Is this just me? Because it really, really bothers me sometimes.) But Ianto! He's just so damn competent that it kills me. And the deadpan sarcasm! It's like he's Jeeves 2.0, with additional taser and pterodactyl.
3. In short, I find myself greatly tempted to commit fiction. But I am absolutely terrified of screwing up the dialect. I mean, I know it's a mobile and not a cell phone, and Jack doesn't wear suspenders, he wears braces, but-- gah. And even thinking about British slang makes me want to die. So if I ever get something going on this front I'm (a) going to actually have to break down and find a beta to Brit-pick, and (b) probably still going to get it wrong. Alas.
4. So. If I were looking for good Torchwood fic, where would I find it? Are there rec sites? Anybody got some good del.icio.us links for me?
5. And. I still have no understanding of Doctor Who. Do I need to fix this? How would I fix this? I understand that there are, like, twenty-gazillion Doctors to contend with, so where the hell do I start?
