This is a fanmix I did several months ago for a challenge on scifiland.

**Backdated.

Cross-posted to endoftheverse, social community for scifiland. Also to best_enemies.

"Do you remember my father's land back home? Pastures of red grass, stretching far across the slopes of Mount Perdition? We used to run across those fields all day, calling up at the sky. Look at us now..."

01. Field of Innocence

I still remember the world
From the eyes of a child
Slowly those feelings
Were clouded by what I know now

Where has my heart gone?
An uneven trade for the real world
Oh I, I want to go back to
Believing in everything and knowing nothing at all

[...]

Oh where, where has my heart gone
Trapped in the eyes of a stranger
Oh I, I want to go back to
Believing in everything

02. Ring of Fire

Love is a burning thing
And it makes a fiery ring
Bound by wild desire
I fell into a ring of fire

[...]

The taste of love is sweet
When hearts like ours meet
I fell for you like a child
Oh, but the fire went wild

"Doctor."
"Do you remember all those fairytales about the Toclafane when we were kids? Back home? Where is it, Doctor?"
"Gone."
"How can Gallifrey be gone?"
"It burnt."
"And the Time Lords?"
"Dead."
"And the Daleks, more or less."
"What happened to you?"
"The Time Lords only resurrected me because they knew I'd be the perfect warrior for a Time War. I was there when that Dalek Emperor took control of the Cruciform. I saw it. I ran. I ran so far... made myself human so they would never find me, because... I was so scared."
"I know..."
"All of them? But not you... which must mean..."
"I was the only one who could end it."
"And I tried, I did, I tried everything..."
"What did it feel like, though? Two almighty civilizations, burning. Oh, tell me how did that feel?"
"Stop it!"
"You must have been like God."
"I've been alone ever since. But not anymore. Don't you see? All we've got is each other."
"Are you asking me out on a date?"
"You can stop this right now. We can leave this planet. We can fight across the constellations, if that's what you want, but not on Earth."
"Too late."

03. Farther Away

I took their smiles and I made them mine
I sold my soul just to hide the light

And now I see what I really am,
A thief, a whore, and a liar.

I run to you,
(And run away from this hell)
Call out your name,
(Giving up, giving in)
I see you there,
(Still you are)
Farther away.

I'm numb to you--
Numb and deaf and blind.

You give me all but the reason why--
I reach but I feel only air and night--
Not you, not love, just nothing.

I run to you,
(And run away from this hell)
Call out your name,
(Giving up, giving in)
I see you there,
(Still you are)
Farther away.

04. Lacrimosa

This piece of music by Mozart just felt, to me, to fit the overall feel of the Doctor and the Master's relationship in a more timeless sense than popular music, as Time Lords themselves are, by nature, rather ageless and epic. However, the song does have Latin lyrics, and here's the translation of a line I thought fit:

Mournful, that day
When from the ashes shall rise
Guilty man to be judged

[...]

Grant them eternal peace and rest

05. Do What You Have To Do

What ravages of spirit
Conjured this temp'tuous rage
Created you a monster
Broken by the rules of love
And fate has lead you through it
You do what you have to do
And fate has led you through it
You do what you have to do...

And I have the sense to recognize that
I don't know how to let you go
Every moment marked
With apparitions of your soul
I'm ever swiftly moving
Trying to escape this desire
The yearning to be near you
I do what I have to do
The yearning to be near you
I do what I have to do
But I have the sense to recognize

That I don't know how
To let you go
I don't know how
To let you go

06. Bad Romance

This one is just self explanatory.

Enough said.

07. How Far We've Come

[...]
Can you tell me what was ever really special about me all this time?

I believe the world is burning to the ground
Oh well I guess we're gonna find out
Let's see how far we've come
Let's see how far we've come
Well I believe it all is coming to an end
Oh well, I guess, we're gonna pretend,
Let's see how far we've come
Let's see how far we've come

"...you're a genius. You're stone-cold brilliant, brilliant, you are. I swear, you really are. But you could be so much more. You could be beautiful. With a mind like that, we could travel the stars. It would be my honour. 'Cause you don't need to own the Universe, just see it. Have the privilege of seeing the whole of time and space. That's ownership enough."
"Would it stop, then? The noise in my head..."
"I can help."
"Don't know what I'd be without that noise."
"Wonder what I'd be, without you?"

08. Hallelujah

Maybe there's a God above,
As for me, all I ever seem to learn from love
Is how to shoot at someone who outdrew you
It's not a complaint that you hear tonight
It's not the laughter of someone who claims to have seen the light
No, it's a cold and it's ever a lonely Hallelujah

[...]

I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though
It all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah

09. Feels Like Home

Somethin' in your eyes, makes me wanna lose myself
Makes me wanna lose myself, in your arms
There's somethin' in your voice, makes my heart beat fast
Hope this feeling lasts, the rest of my life

If you knew how lonely my life has been
And how long I've been so alone
And if you knew how I wanted someone to come along
And change my life the way you've done

10. The Royal We

How many times do you wanna die?
How many ways do you wanna die?

[...]

You said you believe, but believing won't fly
Right before you hit your prime
That's when we fell in love, but not the first time

11. Leave Out All the Rest

So if you're asking me
I want you to know

When my time comes
Forget the wrong that I've done
Help me leave behind some
Reasons to be missed

And don't resent me
And when you're feeling empty
Keep me in your memory

Leave out all the rest
Leave out all the rest

12. This is Gallifrey: Our Childhood, Our Home

This is the first piece of music used on the TV show for things pertaining to the Doctor and the Master. It is performed by the National Orchestra of Wales, if I am not mistaken, but was most definitely composed by Murray Gold.

† I know most people are used to the Rufus Wainwright version of 'Hallelujah' from Shrek, but after a while you get used to the original and it contains some verses that are almost universally omitted from covers, one of which I quoted in the lyrics section of this post. Just thought I'd make it clear that I do know that Rufus Wainwright has a qualitatively better voice, but there's something sweet about this version.
† 'Feels Like Home', granted, is a bit more upbeat than I really felt the rest of this was, but I still felt that some lines of it still fit very well, and I also think of this song when I think of 'what-if' scenarios where they get the happy-ending I often wish they did.
