things annoy me

Why, when I'm enjoying a fun Star Trek ditty, does the author feel the need to completely ruin it for me by writing in Chekov's accent? Not only that, but wrong?

Have these writers missed the movies, the show? Walter started the canon accent by pronouncing Chekov's V's with W's. Not the other way around. He didn't turn the W's into V's. Anton picked up on this and did the exact same thing in the new movie. How could we forget his adorable "wictor wictor two!" in the reboot? Or Walter's infamous "nuclear wessels" scene? I still laugh over that.

Maybe it's not a correct accent. Actually, I'm almost positive that it is, in fact, wrong. But that is the way our Star Trek canon is and has always been. It drives me absolutely nuts when I read things like the words vhere, vas, vhat and vhales in fic. FJDGAHSGCFNRHDAHFB

To be perfectly honest? I'd rather not read an accent forced into his speech at all. Yes, it can be funny, but I know who Chekov is. I know he has an accent. I don't need to literally read it to hear it in my head. And when it's written incorrectly (to canon, anyway) it pulls me from the story.

Don't mind me, I'm just bitching. But... does anyone else feel like this, or am I just a picky, whiny old lady?

bitchface, stxi
