Yes, Danny would know that about him, and I am certain that Danny himself has gone through all kinds of shit in his life (Rachel aside) and that's how he does understand what Steve is going through. Also he does know Steve very well, knows the things Steve keeps hidden - it would be hard not to given how closely they work together. Thank you for writing this as a coda to the ep. I wrote a sweet coda, I have read fluffy ones, but one that showed Steve's deeper (and slightly dark) feelings was much needed.
