So this song came up in my iTunes random play thing this evening, and though it's one I've loved for ages and ages, it struck me especially tonight.


Because Steve found this box of things, right, where he was ten or twelve - old photos, a guy who looks like his dad does, but they're black and white. The guy is posing with a bunch of other guys in uniforms, and they're on the deck of some sort of ship.

And his dad gets a funny look on his face when Steve asks him, all excited, when these had been taken. And sure, he knew that his dad's dad died on the Arizona, but he never saw a picture of his Granddad. And now Dad's talking about sacrifice and honor and patriotism, and Steve listens like he maybe hasn't before.

"You're named for him," Dad says after a while. "Do you understand what that means?"

For the first time, Steve thinks he does.

This song has always given me chills, and now I have mental images, and yeah.
