This is the soundtrack for break upon the waves, that Hawaii Five-0 bigbang-that-only-sort-of-is that I finished last week. The fic is still in beta and trust me, it's not yet fit for reading, dear sweet mercy, but I'm super excited about it anyway, so. Have a soundtrack?
There are snippets of the story here too, little lines that I associate with the songs. If you don't want to be spoiled for the story (it gives pretty much everything away) then I'd recommend just downloading it without reading through the expanded track listing. The link is directly below the cover art. :)

I will settle in and dream
'Cause it's all right, all right to see a ghost
And I wanna see 'em go down in the river where they go
And I wanna see 'em rolling, rolling back
Steve wakes with sweat pouring down his body. He’s shaking, too, but he’s pretty damn grateful he’s not screaming.
Vox Populi (30 Seconds To Mars)
This is a call to arms, gather soldiers
Time to go to war
This is a battle song, brothers and sisters
Time to go to war
Steve was well and truly happy with his place in Hawaii, with Five-0 and with Danny, and he still thought about his SEAL days, but he was at peace with leaving them in the past.
And then the call had arrived.
Silent Night (Lisa Hannigan)
Silent night, broken night
All is fallen when you take your flight
“Home,” Steve says, raking one hand through his hair while squeaking the truck around a curve with the other. “Danny, I need - we have to talk, okay, can you just-”
The International Score Suite (Tom Tykwer)
(instrumental)
That’s Grace. And-”
Steve’s breath catches in his throat for a moment.
Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want (The Karelia)
So for once in my life
Let me get what I want
Lord knows, it would be the first time
They’ve been together for nearly two and a half years, but they’ve never made love quite like this, slow and sweet and almost aching, and as they lay tangled together afterwards, Steve’s head pillowed on Danny’s chest, he mumbles out a plea. “Tell me what to do, Danny.”
Arms (Christina Perri)
You put your arms around me
And I believe that it's easier for you to let me go
You put your arms me and I'm home
“Williams,” Steve hears after a few rings, and he lets out a breath and waits. Two seconds, three, and-
“So we caught this case the other day,” Danny starts, and Steve can hear the clatter of pans in the kitchen as Danny moves around.
In Our Bedroom After The War (Stars)
Wake up! Say good morning to
That sleepy person lying next to you
If there's no one there, then there's no one there
But at least the war is over
Steve’s next stop is in Belarus; he’ not even there long enough to embarrass himself with his poor grasp of Russian before he’s on another plane. This one lands in Morocco, and he spends an uncomfortable three nights in a room with no windows before he gets on yet another plane.
This Is War (Smile Empty Soul)
I drove in a car and flew in a plane
To come to your house and kick your door in
Now it's down to this, it's just you and me
I'll blow your fucking head off for my country
“I’ll do it, sir,” Steve repeats. “The Navy wouldn’t have called me if they thought someone else could do it better, and I’ve talked it over with my people here.”
Paradise (Bruce Springsteen)
I break upon the waves
I feel the sun upon my face
“Hey,” Steve says when Danny answers the phone. He shifts in his bunk, sticking an arm under his head and pulling his knees up. “How are you?”
Rolling Down To Old Maui (Stan Rogers)
Rolling down to old Maui, me boys, rolling down to old Maui,
We're homeward bound from the Arctic grounds, rolling down to old Maui
Steve doesn’t hesitate as he hands the file back over. “Benson will get you what you need,” he says as Moore takes it. “I’ve got somewhere else I need to be.”
Left and Leaving (The Weakerthans)
I'm back with scars to show
Back with the streets I know
Steve spends the drive looking out at the bright colors and shapes of Hawaii, trying to soak in that feeling of home that he’s been missing for months.
After The Bombs (The Decemberists)
We forget all our trials
While there
In our baby's arms
After the rockets
Calm
“Hey,” Steve says after a minute, and it breaks through whatever force is keeping Danny in place. He hurtles towards Steve, clutching at him like he’s starving for the contact. Steve stumbles back even as he’s dropping his phone and pulling Danny in tightly.
Stay (Laura DiStasi)
All I know is when you go
You take all the warmth away
So I may be crazy but
I can't let you slip away
Stay
“Tell me you’re home,” Danny says into his chest. “Tell me you’re done.”
Wasp Nest (The National)
You're all humming live wires under your killing clothes.
Get over here, I wanna kiss your skinny throat
You're a wasp nest
“Marry me,” he says against Danny’s lips.
Danny half-laughs. “Of course.”
Orange Sky (Alexei Murdoch)
In your love, my salvation lies
In your love, my salvation lies
When he finally drops off to sleep, curled around Danny and at home for the first time in months, Steve dreams of the ocean and the sky and Danny smiling, and finally feels like he’s at peace.
