“Alright, these should hold,” Anna murmured, her eyes roving over the intricate, bloody symbols on the wall.
“Good, I'm almost done with mine, where'd you put the herbs I got the other day?” Ruby's voice was distant, and deep. Anna wasn't sure she'd ever get used to the change. She must be on the second floor.
Anna stared up at the ceiling and hollered, “They should be in your bag, babe.”
“But they're not, didn't you take them out and put them in your hoodoo bag of angel-crap?”
“No, I don't think I did, unless, wait, did you check the weapons duffel?” Anna called, staring at her handiwork again, checking compulsively for errors. She waited, hearing her girlfriend's footsteps heavy and dull on the creaking ceiling above her.
“Found them!”
Anna turned and headed for the stairs, “Were they in the weapons duffel?”
“Yep, why? You put them there?”
“No, you did, you decided we should keep them with the other spell ingredients because some of the combat magic needed them more frequently than the wards did,” Anna replied.
Ruby had chosen the largest room in the house for them. It was aging and musty but the bed seemed solid. Anna shuffled over to it and ran her hands over the mostly wilted down comforters, and beneath it into the sheets. It smelled awful, and everything was coated in a layer of dust. She knew better than to mention it to Ruby, she'd only point out that it was better than they'd had in a while.
Anna turned her eyes over onto the long, broad expanse of Ruby's back. Her cropped black hair, wedged into a militant crew-cut. The masculine v-shaped torso was still a surprise, and Anna had to remind herself, this is my girlfriend, this is Ruby. She'd forgotten just how much of herself was still very human, despite her angelic heritage. She invested so much in faces. This was still her lover, still her person, just a different shape.
Ruby muttered a few last incantations, and fire sparked to life beneath her. The flame divided into four smaller wisps that shot out to the four corners of the room and licked up the walls. They flickered and glowed and illuminated the room and then vanished, snuffed out, though Anna could feel the difference. A heady thrum of magic lining the room closely entwined with a larger wall around the house. No demons, no angels, no witches, or hunters would find them. They were safe for the night.
Ruby stood up and stretched, hands placed in the low of her back as her spine creaked and popped. They got ready for bed, too lazy and familiar with each other to care about modesty. There wasn't anything they hadn't seen before.
Anna tried to hide her cringe as she crawled into the old bed, but Ruby must have seen anyways, because she laughed at her all the same.
“Shut up, this is gross, okay?”
“I know, Annie, it's still entertaining to watch you squirm over it,” Ruby snarked.
“Whatever,” Anna grumped, flopping down under the covers and reaching blindly for her girl.
“Right here,” Ruby muttered, drawing Anna into her arms.
Anna looped her arms around Ruby's torso and nuzzled into the crook of her neck. Ruby hummed contentedly, kissing Anna's forehead arm tucked under her side and around her shoulders. Anna kissed her in kind, soft against her meatsuit's pulse.
She drew up one leg, draping it over Ruby's hips and notching them together, and suddenly Ruby's arms tightened around her. Anna kissed up her neck and over her stubble littered jawline, finding her lips.
Ruby's moan rumbled into the kiss rough and growl-like as she rolled Anna onto her back and settled easily between her legs. Anna bucked up against Ruby's hips, as startled as she'd been for the past few weeks when she felt a cock tenting boxers as opposed to a warm pussy. She knew, she did, it's not like she forgot that Ruby was wearing a man. It was just that she was so used to feeling a woman against her in bed, soft curves and warm and wet. Now there were hard angles and toned shoulders that went on forever.
Ruby tugged Anna's panties down and then her own boxers. Her hand snuck under Anna's back, pushing her breast up into Ruby's mouth. Anna whined, and rolled her hips in an effort to get any closer to the fix she needed. Some other night, maybe her girlfriend would have teased her, mocked how easy she was, or denied her what she wanted, if they had time. But everyone was against them on their best day, and this was the first time in a week they'd been able to settle in and camp out for the night. They'd lost them all for now, and no one ever said they'd survive tomorrow.
Ruby guided herself into Anna and then thrust all the way in, moving her mouth up to Anna's again. Anna wrapped her legs around Ruby's waist and moved with her, clumsy and out of sync, but it was good enough. Their lips were locked, tongues sliding over each other, and Ruby's hand was still splayed in the middle of Anna's back, pressing them as close to each other as possible. Anna shuddered and grappled at Ruby's back when she came, her orgasm seizing her embarrassingly fast. It was cheap and quick, not giving her the sluggish warmth of one of their better fucks. It left her itchy and restless, but happy.
Ruby followed her soon after, rutting into her hard enough to break her, if she was entirely human. The grace wound tightly around her body kept her hips from shattering.
Ruby laid heavily on top of her, winding her arms under Anna's shoulders and hands twining under her neck. She nosed at Anna's breasts where her t-shirt had been rucked up, and sighed sleepily. Anna ran her hands through Ruby's short, scrub-brush hair, and didn't bother bugging her like normal. Alright, babe, you can GET OUT OF ME NOW. She laid her arms over Ruby's back and closed her eyes, tried to get some sleep. Both of them just barely human enough to try.
