OOM: The Door

Warehouse 13, Artie's office, middle of nowhere, South Dakota

A couple of days after the "visitors" go back from whence they came, Myka comes back from a sweep of the small knickknacks section to find Claudia alone in the office. She hesitates a half second and then goes to lean her hip against the desk.

"Hey Claudia... Can I talk to you for a

"--Sure. What's up?"
The groundwork for Artie's grand 'and now we hunt for MacPherson' plan can wait five minutes, right? Right.

"You seemed to know about how our guests earlier this week got in and out and where they were coming from. There's nothing about it in the manual," she had checked several times to be certain, "And I want to be sure that that kind of thing doesn't happen again."

"Oh, right. Well... the door doesn't lock, but it usually stays shut just fine on its own. There were kinda extenuating circumstances."
And she really doesn't want to get into 'installing a lock' territory. Now that she wouldn't be doing it in a fit of pique, she'd feel obligated to ask Artie, and guess who'd keep the only key then!

Myka nods thoughtfully. "Obviously the door is the artifact. But... Is it multi-dimensional? Can it bring people here from anywhere?" Because that seems like it could be a major MacPherson loophole.

"...It's complicated. People get to Milliways from lots of different dimensions, but they could only come here if someone let them in. Or... if the door is otherwise jarred open from our side. And I think the way it works is the door lets you out to the same place you came in."
But having never tried it from anywhere but here, she can't really comment.

"Does Artie know what it's capable of?"

Of course Artie knows, Artie just doesn't share what he knows. She starts to wonder if there are other teleportation type artifacts they should be worrying about locking down.

Claudia nods. "He doesn't know how it got here, if the tag's any indication, but he knows about it. Apparently Mrs. F told him to keep an eye on it."
She still remembers that tidbit from their argument about it.

Myka moves over to one of the other chairs and sits down. "You've been through the door, haven't you?"

"Well, yeah. You tell me Milliways, even 'interdimensional space' right after it isn't gonna slow me down. Not much, anyway."
It's the geek points. They tend to overrule things like common sense, sometimes.

"What's it like?"

She tries not to sounds as wistful out-loud as she does in her head.

"The food's awesome, the people are awesome, the holidays are awesome - swankiest interdimensional space I've ever been to. Of the two."
But that's more than most people ever see, so Claudia feels safe making that call.
She goes to say something else, then thinks better of it. "...You know, there's probably no reason you couldn't check it out."

Myka looks shocked. "Claudia, we're not allowed to use artifacts for field trips in to multi-dimensional literary space."

"And if there's going to be an interdimensional space in my life, I want to know when it's showing up. Nnnnot really a fan of being taken by surprise by them anymore. Besides, time here stops when you're there."
And anyway it's Milliways. Isn't that enough?

"But if we avoid the door, there doesn't have to be any interdimensional space in our lives at all."

Okay, yes, that even sounds weak to Myka.

"Explain the time it pulled Artie out of Leena's, then. The place likes to sneak up on people, Myka. I'd rather not give it a reason to sneak."

"It pulled Artie out of Leena's?"

That's bad. That's very bad. Interdimensional spaces should not sneak up on people like crazed 7-year olds on Halloween. It's just not right
