OKAY there's new people in this bar and I wanted to be all profound and informative, but, you know, whatever, it's sunday and it's warm outside and let's just talk in the comments.
How is everyone, how was your week, and here's a meme I stole from

But! H/c the trope! As in, a sequence of events that happens in any genre! I ALSO LOVE THAT. In basically every piece of fiction I ever loved, the moment of vulnerability and then the moment of reprieve. It's sometimes hilariously hard to write, because I will construct all this profound vulnerability, but then can't find a right way to alleviate it. But the nice thing about this trope is that while you can completely fix the problem, it's also great when you just halt the misery temporarily. And, seriously, every genre and every story needs those little moments of calmness and kindness.
[Like, and don't laugh, I watched a thing on youtube the other day, do you know the reality show LA Ink? About the thrilling adventures of a tattoo shop? Welllllllllllll this episode was about Frank Iero getting a tattoo of his grandpa! And the tattoo artist, who is usually v. professional while adorable, fell asleep tragically because she was sad, and was late like hoooours for his appointment! on such mishappenings are reality shows built! There was all this mildly annoying narration about it! But then she arrived and Frank was, inevitably, totally adorable and graceful about it - sometimes you just need to rest - and she smiled, and it was all completely soothing and brightened my day.]

yessssssss i think it's a very - i mean, on some level, it's sort of a candy genre, instant fulfillment, but on the other, it's very... let me say uplifting, while nobody is watching, because it's about a default existence of hope in a largely hopeless universe, you know? things are bad, and things are bad, but things will get better - and always by the person themselves in conjunction with other people, never in vacuum. it's fundamentally about kindness, and honestly, sometimes i think every story in the world should be about kindness.
(He did not cry. The woman who was selling it, a thin stork-like lady who kept goats, took him by the arm and gave him a cup of sweetened milk and then refilled his spilled bottle, for free. He did not have the words to thank her kindness, but she didn't need them.)
but the tropes, yes, and these little bits of - yes - vulnerability and reprieve, and the way they always, always, always stand out of the story for me, making it that much sweeter, sharper, deeper. when the usual stream of events-reactions-whatever slows down in this - pool of pain and joy.
(i never laugh! well, i laugh, but with love, and also you and bandom, laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. and this moment of grace, yes ♥)
