OKAY there's new people in this bar and I wanted to be all profound and informative, but, you know, whatever, it's sunday and it's warm outside and let's just talk in the comments.

How is everyone, how was your week, and here's a meme I stole from

Oh, cleaning out hard drives - I love it! Any time I can turn something disorganized in my totally disorganized life into something a little more organized? It's party time!

Hmm ... anime that we're watching? Just finished Kill la Kill and I pronounce it only a tiny piece short of a masterpiece in my opinion. On the other hand, Barakomon, the story of a calligraphy artist who goes to a hayseed country town to regain his mojo, and who develops a fantastic and completely non-skeevy relationship with a seven year old girl, is truly a masterpiece, right at the opposite end of the spectrum from Kill la Kill. We're rewatching the OVA Summer Wars, which I think is proof that Miyazaki-level talent has always been there in televised anime (everyone forgets that's where he got his start), and we're probably going to watch the latest Ghost in the Shell OVA. Also, quieter and quite lovely newish series are Rail Wars (which involve no wars, and lots of trains, more than a bit of fan service, but not enough to make me say "no", and which my train-loving and "slice of slightly ridiculous life" loving hubby loves), and Glasslip, a bit of magical realism-cum-coming of age sweetness that both of us like

Uh ... yeah, TMI, I know. But definitely in an anime mood this afternoon.

I'm tickled that you're at all interested in the Chitauri fic. Hope you like it!

And I'm looking forward to the Historical AU opinions. Huzzah!

Hah, never such a thing as TOO much information, I shall check all these out. I'd like to hear more about your enjoyment of Kill La Kill! It doesn't sound like quite my thing, but I love hearing why people love the thing they love. And what kept it from being entirely a masterpiece?

OKAY HISTORICAL AUs! Well, I don't read World War II things, but other than that, I love historical AUs. (I imagine there's other (mostly recent-history) settings I would also not read - like, Gulag-fic, or something, but people don't tend to write those that I've seen.)

But, okay, Regency fic! Prohibition era fic! Romans! Vikings! I enjoy it all. I have a worse than average grasp of history, so inaccuracy doesn't bother me - I really don't notice it, or if I do, I am just proud of myself for catching the anachronism - but it is an extra delight when people write well-researched fic that I can learn from. But I love historical AUs in particular because I love it when characters I love are thrown into a different system of values and power dynamics.

I have not written historical AUs myself - partly because, seriously, VERY BAD AT HISTORY I STILL HAVE NIGHTMARES ABOUT THAT ONE EXAM, partly because I think that you need longer stories than the ones I usually write to properly develop a historical AU. But! It could still happen in the future!
