My New Year was phenomenal. I saw the Desolation of Smaug and adored it beyond all reason (I love Tauriel and her lovelife and may - juuuuust may - kinda ship Freeman's semi-evil tax-collector Bilbo with Cumberbatch's drama queen Smaug

Brigdh is a mastermind and I am glad she's using her powers for good.

ALINA YOU HAVE GOT TO READ THE BOOK. Did you read Brighd's fic? (READ IT. Also read Aja's. They're both hilarious and excellent.) The book is like Brigdh's fic but longer and less coherent; with strong tides of kindness flowing underneath everyone's anachronistic corset-lacing bitchiness. And I think you will love Kit - she has the kind of tired working-man strength that you love. (there exists a small chance you will not love Jude) (but I think his cheekbones and tragic childhood will make up for his relative lack of virtue)

[Tauriel is AMAZING. I didn't even know who this Evangeline Lilly person was but she conveyed the middle finger sentiment perfectly with the power of her face and thus I love her now. (my kingdom for a scene where she knocks Thranduil out) (that bastard) Did you read that Evangeline VERY EXPLICITLY demanded no love triangles? And was devastated when the writers did the Tauriel/Legolas thing anyway? It's kinda a sad story but then you realise that she ALSO basically sabotaged Tauriel/Legolas also with the power of her face. Of which I can only approve.]

she's awesome and i'm 10000% sold on her and don't know why anybody ever bitched about her storyline. it's perfectly in place and looks awesome and she fights like a stone-cold badass and has a sneaky sense of humor and i bet she and legolas were good cranky friends before legolas discovered, you know, elf hormones.

(oh baby legolas, you precious little cranky speciecist asshole. JUST WAIT FOR HIMLI OKAY).

YES THEY DEFINITELY WERE AWESOME FRIENDS before Legolas's tragic descent into asshole maleness. Which like - I love that Tauriel's main source of unhappiness isn't that she's a woman working in a male-dominated field... it's that her boss/patron is a sleazy asshole who basically keeps accusing her of golddigging (and has no sense of respect or personal boundaries) while her friend/coworker is slowly devolving into a frigid bully. BUT THEN LEGOLAS LEFT MIRKWOOD AND BECAME LIKE 12% LESS OF AN ASSHOLE AND I CAN'T WAIT FOR HIM TO BECOME DECENT AND GIMLI-WORTHY. ♥
