I have to say, life the last few days has been very positive!
On Wednesday, I got a random email from Student Services saying I'm getting a refund cheque... apparently they overcharged me for something? Hell, if they give me that much money (back) again, I won't ask questions :-D
Yesterday I spent the day in London =) Fulbright occasionally puts on events for alums and associated individuals, and there was a classical music concert in the evening that I wanted to attend. Also, I was really looking forward to seeing my friend Grant who's another grantee (hah) this year-- he's currently at Oxford. After a day of bumming around Leicester Square (wherein the process I acquired: 1) 10d10 dice from the
Orc's Nest-- store brought to my attention by
Lifestealer, 2) lunch and assorted yummy stuff from Chinatown, 3) a book on photography from the Photographer's Gallery, and experienced some minor delays care of train car troubles in the tube.. naturally...), I treated Grant to dinner at a Lebanese restaurant as it's his birthday today!
Off we went to Leighton House for the concert. As I was getting sorted in the cloak room, a familiarish-sounding voice calls my name...
Who could it be but... Katherine Sydenham!? (For my non-swat friends, this is a girl from my uni in the states whom I was friends with. Katherine was probably the last person that I expected to see at a Fulbright event in London.)
In retrospect, it all makes sense-- her family is British and has just moved to London, and her sister Emma (who also seems very sweet) was a grantee to Austria. But wow, what a bizarre moment that was for me... In any case, we caught up a bit and hopefully will meet up at some point in the next couple weeks as Cassie is visiting the UK for some time as well.
The rest of the evening was very enjoyable. The music at the concert was quite good, though a bit nostalgic as this is the first classical music concert I've been to... perhaps since I've been in the uk... :-O... and it was a bit sad to not be performing. But I did get a 10 quid pickup while on the tube (it really did look like rubbish which is probably why nobody had picked it up yet), so that topped off the evening quite well.
Now I just have my 80-page report to wrap up tomorrow. The weekend will be occupied by two bbqs, a jazzmanix committee meeting, and a trip to the
Southampton Beer Festival! I'm sure both
ultranurd and
Entropydevice would appreciate the bitters more than I will, but it should be a good time!
