The Sick Day

May 30, 2013 20:31

Who: Dr. Bruce Banner and Loki Laufeyson
When: Early afternoon
Where: Stark Tower Labs
What: When the best-laid plans...don't always work out.

Dr. Banner leaned over the table, eyes intensely focused, ears tuned to the musical hum of computers and machines, fingers running over every knob and dial, every apparatus and piece of equipment... though he already knew what was there. After all, it wasn't the first time he had checked.

He was glad Tony was abroad and not here to make fun of him for checking the equipment for the fourth (or was it fifth?) time. Still, Bruce reasoned, while examining the various sensors and their connecting wires, today was different, and he had to be sure he was prepared for every variable. He was expecting company for this one, and he knew that his guest tended to be impatient at the very least, so things needed to run smoothly. Besides, Bruce knew that his subject did have a tendency to make things... chaotic. Being over-prepared may be a joke to some, but in Bruce's opinion, it was also usually the first step to successful research.

He straightened up for a moment and glanced towards the door. No, not here yet. His hand idly found its way to pull at his shirt's collar and sighed. He had given JARVIS explicit instructions that the lab's temperature remain at a constant and cool seventy degrees, so why was it suddenly so warm in here?

Bruce raised the stylus to his screen to record a few preliminary notes when it hit him. The text blurred as the lab around him started to spin. Waves of nausea seemed to press against him, but he held it back. Leaning against the table to steady himself, he shook his head. With a few deep breaths, the spinning slowed, then stopped, and he turned back to his notes and equipment. He had science to do today; he certainly didn't have time for anything else.

worst patient ever, interrupted science, science, loki laufeyson, he's not wearing a nurse costume, you wouldn't like me when i'm sick, unconventional bedside manner, feeling a little green, bruce banner
