There are mourning doves roosting in our cherry tree.
Our family found them out when trimming back the branches. Before, the branches hung down like an ungainly umbrella and covered their nesting place completely. Now you can see them nestled into the nexus of tree where the branches begin to arch out.
The mourning doves blend perfectly with the bark, so that even when my brother was pointing them out to me, it took me a while to see them.
I love the sound of mourning doves. There used to be a birch tree outside my bedroom window that had a nest in them, and every spring and summer I'd hear them coo--it really is a mournful sound, took me a while to get used to it, but now it's the sound of home to me.
I was so sad when our neighbors cut down their birch. But now we have mourning doves in our cherry tree!
I'm ridiculously thrilled. =)
