That was a really deep pit. Real dark, too. Climbing over the real high wall had been bad enough, but now they expected them to -- what? Jump over it? It was huge! They couldn't jump over that!
But there was the rest of the obstacle course, spread out beyond the pit like some shimmering dew, waiting for them to complete this part of their training.
She glanced shyly to the side, looking to him for guidance. He had been the first to make it up the wall, after all. Maybe he knew what to do? And he was standing there, brow furrowed, considering...
When over to her other side she heard a loud clamor -- as finally, finally the last one made it up the wall and stole her attention as he put his hands on his knees and panted.
She felt his gaze on her, and shift further down, to him. "Finally," he said loudly, "My chance to get ahead! Bonzai!"
And then he jumped off the wall. And all she saw was his shimmering blond head as a stark contrast against the darkness of the pit... as he fell straight into it.
"Ch," he said. "Dobe."
And as she watched with wonder as he figured out a way to cross, a way which she was able to imitate and navigate over the pit safely, she heard the cursing from below as the dead last ninja crawled his way out of the pit. And she wondered, just for a second before her attention was captured by him again, why they had all been frozen at the top until Naruto had appeared.
