So...It's been awhile I suppose since I've mentioned what's going on in life. Mostly, this is because I've been doing, and even accomplishing, things. Go me! - This is a picture heavy post, so click on the cuts if you would like to see them.
First, the weekend before this past weekend we went
sailing!
Look! Wind and heeling! Actual sailing, not just bobbing.
One more
here for anyone interested.
*spins with glee* We took some new friends sailing, which we always like to do. It was warm, sunny, and windy. For some reason, the weather doesn't usually like to cooperate when we're taking people out with us, so that was a bonus.
Then, I found a loop-hole in the sushi-once-a-week rule. As we were driving by the fresh fish market, I reminded J that we once made our own sushi. So we rounded up some fish, stopped by the asian market (I got my own
coffee maker so I could return the in-laws' to them!), and called in the in-laws. Then had ourselves some
yummi home-made sushi.
Spicy Tuna
Something else I did, which took most of last week and is the real culprit for the lack of interesting posts here, I painted the front door red. J has always liked red front doors and ours was boring white. We need to buy a front door but it's not really high on the priority list atm. I wrapped the door in red for him for Christmas and then we were so sad when it was time to unwrap it and door was boring white again. That's when I decided to paint it.
Anyone who knows about red paint, knows this was an adventure. So I started out by tinting primer and, therefore painting the door
pink:
Then, I took some time to mess with J: "Ah, it's so cute pink, we should leave it that way for Easter!"
"uh, no."
"At least until Valentines Day then!"
"NO"
And then I painted and painted and painted until I had a
red door.
Ok, it looks slightly orange in the picture but it actually is red.
In the meantime, J
worked on his boat (that link goes to pictures, it'll go to his journal if he ever gets around to posting about it), helped his father cut the dinghy he's been building in half - on purpose, and
finished my kitchen shelves!
There's a story to these shelves: Bendicat is HUGE! When he was a kitten we figured out a brilliant way to feed him while keeping the dogs from eating his food. We put his food in a box with a hole on the top so he jumped down in there and got his food. Well....he doesn't fit in his box anymore.
I saw this coming in the past few months and I've been pondering what we were going to do, when it hit me: shelves. So they are set like stair steps, his water on the first one, because I don't care if the dogs get that, and his food on the second one. It took him a bit to decide it was ok to eat outside his box, but he's gotten the
hang of it.
As a bonus, I get to have my awesome orange bowls out and I found the fifties, stainless steel bread box at Salvation Army for a few dollars. Love it! I've always wanted a bread box.
So that was mostly what we did for the past week and weekend. Although we also had some fun with friends.
Finally, I'm still working on the ugly couch. We weren't as lucky to stumble on the fabric for it as we were for the other one but we finally did find one that I fell in love with (J thinks it'll grow on him, we'll see.) So I've been working on that -
with a little help:
