So, a while back
zarla posted her adventure in making Shepherd's Pie. One of the comments mentioned Spagetti Pie. That sounded interesting, so I made one.
I googled for a recipe and found the following:
SPAGHETTI PIE
PIE SHELL:
6 oz. spaghetti
2 tbsp. butter
1 well beaten egg
1/3 c. grated Parmesan cheese
FILLING:
1 c. cottage cheese
1 c. Mozzarella cheese, shredded
SAUCE:
1 lb. ground beef
1/2 - 3/4 c. chopped onion
1/2 diced green pepper (optional)
1 (15 oz.) jar spaghetti sauce
Cook spaghetti according to package directions. Stir in butter, Parmesan cheese and eggs into hot spaghetti. Form spaghetti into a "crust" into 10" pie plate. Brown onions and green pepper in small amount of oil until soft. Add meat and brown. Add spaghetti sauce and simmer 25 to 30 minutes. Spread cottage cheese over spaghetti crust. Top with meat sauce. Bake 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Top with Mozzarella cheese and let cheese melt. Let stand before cutting.
I used Egg Beaters instead of an actual egg. I also couldn't find a 10" pie plate (they all seemed to be 9"), so I used a 9" cake pan.
After I got started, I remembered to take pictures :)
Pie "crust" (spaghetti, parmesan cheese, egg) with cottage cheese
The filling: chopped onion, chopped bell pepper, hamburger, spaghetti sauce
350 degree oven
Ready to bake
In the oven it goes
This will annoy me in 30 minutes
OMG!!! done!
Sprinkle cheese on top, and put back in oven a couple of minutes to melt it
Melted, and done!
With the wonder of polytetrafluoroethylene, I was able to remove the pie from the pan intact.
I don't think I'll be eating this a la mode
It was delicious as it was
I *LIKE* dishwashers!
