I am apprehensive about the current "health plan overhaul" that is being proposed in the Senate Finance Comittee. In brief:
Pro: more subsidies for people who cannot afford, and nixing the "pre-existing condition" gambit
Con: Universal-health coverave by mandate instead of by fiat, so penalties to "opt out" - i.e. if you can't afford insurance but you make more than their "you can afford insurance", they fine you. the latest change allows lesser fines for people who choose not to buy insurance.

You'd think that with a "Super Majority" the Dems could push a "public option" through. I've heard of two public option plans, one of which would bankrupt rural hospitals (oops); the other would be a little more expensive, but would be more price appropriate to allow medical practitioners to continue their craft. Both were shot down.

Also, I might be "overusing" quotation "marks".
