Author's Notes: Well, here's another chapter... hope it's good!
The next morning Benji woke up and stretched out. He headed to the bathroom and looked at himself in the mirror. His hazel eyes stared back at him, taunting him. They reminded him of the eyes of those three Amish kids. He had dreams all night of what it would be like to live like them, and it wasn't that bad, he supposed. He couldn't get the simple dress and kindness of the Combs children out of his mind, especially that gorgeous Joel. He pried himself away from his reflection and turned the water to the shower on before going back into the room to grab his clothes for the day. The others were still sleeping, which surprised him. He figured the girls would be up already, fixing their hair or something. He looked at the clock. 5:00. He knew they were planning on getting up early, but he figured he was being a bit ridiculous, yet he knew he couldn't go back to sleep.
With a sigh he collected his clothing and moved back to the bathroom. He shed his shorts and stepped into the steamy sensation of the water. He continued to think about what life would have been like for him if he were raised like Joel. Sure, he wouldn't have been able to play sports, and he'd probably have to wear very earthy tones, when he believed he looked best in brighter colors... but he bet his father wouldn't have run out on him when he was a kid if they were Amish. His father would have had better morals than that. He'd probably had a supportive, loving father who would teach him his trade and send him out into the world with more than a rich step-mom, but with knowledge and a better understanding of the world. He sighed again and rubbed shampoo into his hair. Maybe if he had had a father figure in his life he wouldn't be turned out gay. No, as he rubbed shower gel over his muscles he slapped himself for thinking such a thing. He knew that wasn't true. He was born this way, and if he didn't believe it, how would he ever convince others of it when he decided to come out? He knew he would have to do it someday...
After he rinsed off he ran some cooler water over his body, and then stepped out to dry off. He dressed in a pair of grey cotton boxers and a nice-fitting pair of blue jeans. Not too tight, not too loose. Just the way he liked them, comfortable yet stylish. He pulled a grey wife-beater over his head and topped it off with a bright teal colored polo shirt from Abercrombie. He brushed his teeth and found himself looking into his own eyes again. He had never been so fascinated with them before. He shook his head and rubbed his face, wondering what was going on with him. He walked back into the hotel room and sat down in the arm chair, listening to the sounds of his sleeping friends. After about five minutes he began playing a game silently on his phone, but no matter what he did it didn't change the fact that he was very much awake, very curious, and very bored. He noticed a pad of paper and a pen next to the phone on the night stand between the beds. He left a note for his friends telling them to call his cell when they were ready to leave.
He left the room and jogged down to his car. He reasoned in his mind that he really had no clue where he was headed as he pulled out of the parking lot, but he figured it didn't really matter. It was at times like these that he believed in fate. It was at times like those in the shower drowning himself in his own pity over being abandoned by his father that he did not. But that didn't matter at the moment, he had a gut feeling that he would find something interesting in his drive past all of the cows and foul odors.
Twenty minutes into his drive along a winding path of hills and trough green valleys he saw just what he was looking for. Joel Combs. He was in his drive way trying to calm down a beautiful brown horse that he was trying to attach to the same wagon that Benji had fixed just the day before. He slowed his car down and fought with himself over weather or not to actually stop and get out. He saw a man and some children he hadn't seen before in the distance, too busy to notice the black car out front. Before he could decide for himself what to do it was too late. The teenage girl who had been with Joel at the Wawa convenient store came out of the front door to their old but elegant two story home. Immediately, she made eye contact with Benji and a smile spread across her face. She waved at him and then called out to her brother. Joel's attention shifted back and forth between his sister and the horse, trying to figure out what it was that she wanted without getting hurt. When he noticed her eyes fixed on something across the street, he too looked over at Benji's car, but he wasn't as quick to smile.
Benji's heart raced. What now? The girl answered that for him by waving him over. He pulled over onto the grass across the street and turned his car off. With a deep breath and a heavily pounding heart he opened his door and stood up, smiling awkwardly at them and finally closing his door and jogging across the street. "Hey." He said softly to Joel. "Need help?"
"You know how to fix wagons and tame horses?" Joel laughed with a struggling breath.
"Not really." Benji laughed. "But it's worth a try, right?"
"Be my guest." With that, Joel handed the reigns over to Benji and stepped away from the bucking steed. Benji rubbed the face of the beautiful creature and whispered calming words to it and he pulled gently on the reigns, slowly calming the animal down.
"How did you do that?" Joel breathed out, amazed.
"Hah..."Benji removed his hand from the horse's face and rubbed the back of his neck in a nervous way. "I guess I just have experience with it. My mom owns a stable."
"Really? Do you have a lot of horses?" Joel asked, interested.
"I guess so... well, we have two each that no one uses but us, and then about twenty that her employees use to train the students. She also houses other people's horses there if they don't have enough land to keep them at home. It's really just a hobby for her though, and a way to get the kids in our area interested in something that means so much to her. Her real job is running the hotel she owns in Philadelphia."
"You're from Philadelphia?" Joel asked, his face dropping a bit.
"Actually, we're from New Jersey." Benji said, realizing that he would be going home Monday morning. "I'm just here shopping at the Outlets with my friends for school clothing. I normally don't go to outlets but my friend Missy thought it would be a fun get away, even if we really didn't need to save the money..." Feeling like he was bragging, Benji changed the subject. "Were you going out somewhere?"
"My sister and I are going to help our older brother work in the shop he owns. We help him every Saturday during the summer. It's tourist season and he and his wife can't handle it alone when it gets too busy." Joel turned to his sister who had been standing near them silently since Benji took over the horse. "This is Mary, my twin sister." Joel said with a smile.
Benji was sure it wouldn't be right for him to shake the girls hand so he gave her a smile and said hello instead.
"I find your color choices fascinating." Mary said very boldly.
"W-What?" Benji was a little taken back, but not in a bad way.
"Well, when we saw you yesterday, you had a bright yellow shirt on. Today a very vibrant teal color. It's not often that I get to see such beautiful colors." She had a very beautiful smile on her face.
"I guess I like to stand out." Benji admitted. "Also, I like to think that these colors remind me of better things, and help me put a smile on."
"Well, that's a very good idea." Mary said. "Joel, I forgot to tidy up the kitchen after I finished cooking breakfast. Mother will be upset with me when she gets back from the Church meeting. I'll be right back out, and then we have to leave or we'll be late." She smiled at Benji and waved quickly for before walking off in no rush to the house.

Joel knew very well that his twin had not forgotten to tidy up the kitchen, for he had helped her do it. He knew she had something up her sleeve and judging from the way she had smiled before she ran off, he knew that she wanted him to spend time with Benji. He wanted to, also. And he assumed that Benji wanted to spend time with him too, or he wouldn't have driven around seemingly aimlessly at such an early hour without his friends.
"So what brings you out here?" Joel asked, wanting to know for sure. Benji seemed startled, like he hadn't suspected such a question.
"I..." He paused. "I'm not really sure to tell you the truth." Benji laughed. "My friends are all still asleep and the silence was killing me."
"And you just happened to drive by here?" Joel inquired.
"Well, it isn't as if I knew where you live, so how could it not be by chance?" Benji smiled.
Joel smiled back but changed the subject. "How long are you here for?" He asked, reaching out a hand to the horse attached to the buggy, letting it know they would be leaving soon.
"I'll be here all day and tomorrow, but we're leaving Monday morning."
"That's an awfully long time to shop." Joel laughed.
"Well, I guess you don't know much about teenage girls."
"Only the ones in my sect, and believe me, they don't do a lot of shopping." Joel continued to laugh. He hated that he couldn't stop but there was just something about this boy that made him very happy. He still couldn't get over how strong Benji was. And he loved his smile. And the way rubbed his own arm when he was nervous. And the way he stood. And...Joel stopped himself but continued to smile. He needed to control his emotions. He had just met this boy, who was leaving soon, and h didn't even know if he was gay...and if he was... well, he'd never see him again anyway. His smile faded a little but it didn't completely disappear.
Mary walked back outside, a large smile still on her face. "Well, we'd better be going." She said to Joel. "It was nice seeing you again, Benjamin. Have a great day!" And with that she tugged on Joel's arm and pulled him to the buggy. He helped his sister up the step, knowing that it couldn't be easy in those ridiculous boots she was made to wear. He then rounded back to the other side and got into his own seat. "I hope you have a good time shopping." He said to Benji. "Maybe we'll meet again someday." He commanded the horse to begin their trot to the shop, but felt a sinking feeling in his heart, despite his confident words.
