The other Souma realize that Tohru has fallen in love with Kyou and that is her reasoning for wanting to break the curse. However, Tohru doesn’t want to admit the love she has of Kyo to herself. She fears that if she admits it to herself that she would lose all the promises she had made to her mother.
Clinging to the past and wanting the future, Tohru becomes frequently sadder and slowly begins to “lose herself” or that is what Rin Souma explains about Tohru. Though Tohru does eventually admit her love to Kyou, he can’t accept her feelings because he feels guilty for her mother’s death. He explains to her that he was there the day her mother died and if he had saved her, his cat form would have been revealed before a large group of people. He decided against saving her mother to protect himself. When he runs away, Tohru follows him in attempt to bring him back to the shigure’s house a second time. She is followed by Akito, who blames her for everything that has happened to her and tells Tohru that she is frightened of the future and being left alone. Tohru offers Akito her friendship, but is refused by Akito once, as she extends the offer again the ground under her feet gives away and Tohru falls from the cliff.

In the original Japanese manga of Fruits Basket, Tohru speak in traditional formal style but she doesn’t always use it correctly. She does this to be more like her deceased father, Katsuya Honda, in order to take his place in her mother’s eyes and to prove to the rest of her family that she is her father’s daughter and not the child of another man her mother had an affair with (which never happened). Katsuya died while on a business trip of pneumonia, she become increasingly worried about the well-being of others in the series when they come down with a cold or illness fearing they could end up having something like her father did. Sometimes, she worries herself so much over small things like test scores and other minor things she forgets about her own health and results in her becoming sick.
In the beginning of the series, Tohru treasures a picture of her mother and hardly goes anywhere without it. After her mother’s, Kyoko, death in a car accident Tohru tries to form a bond with a person that she had so desperately loved. While Kyoko was alive, Tohru promised to graduate from high school and tell her mother how it felt to hold a diploma. Keeping that promise after her mother’s death Tohru becomes distressed when she gets only one red mark on her end-of-term tests and feels that she had let her mother down. Eventually, she falls in love with Kyou Souma and feels that she is leaving her mother behind when she finally realizes her feelings for Kyou. She comes to realize that her mother would have wanted her to find someone else if she had been alive still.
[Abilities] Describing her ability would be the ability to help others in the best way that she can. This just doesn’t mean helping with a few things here and there, this means, in her case, that she’d shoulder every burden they have weighed on their hearts or on their minds. Going great lengths to make sure of someone’s happiness, Tohru wants to make sure everyone is happy even if she isn’t. For instance, she goes on a dangerous mission in the Fruits Basket Manga (Chapter ) to see Kureno even though she had been instructed not to. Going to see Kureno meant that she could be able to make her friend, Arisa Uotani (a.k.a Uo-Chan) happy again.
A number of other things, that go along with her personality as well, are also abilities she has. Such as her selflessness, her ability to change people’s hearts, not being able to bring herself to say “mean” things about others even during her schools play of “Cinderella” she was unable to bring herself to saying mean things as the wicked stepsister.
Her sort of “ability” is well admired among the Souma family. Her reactions, ideas, and advice to help them overcome their problems are somewhat strange to them. Having a person that constantly shoulders their problems and helps them with everything they need is a new thing for some of them. With a family so twisted, it’s good to have someone like Tohru around to help smooth out some of the past.
Two minor abilities, which Tohru thinks she is an artist in is her ability to cook and clean. She enjoys cooking very much as well as doing a number of house held chores.

[Sample post] Something...something happened before she slipped into her dream. There was someone crying and someone yelling, the sound of a distant siren screaming and the blurry faces disappearing into darkness and a white, painful light. At first, there was nothing, just a seemingly, never ending white light. Where was everyone? She thought, IS Kyou-kun safe? Did he return to Shigure’s house? More question developed in her thoughts, after one came another and another. Nothing replied. Nothing gave away any answers.
Slowly, the bright light gave way to something...something she had only seen when she slipped into her dreams. A different world, not like her own, and things that were similar to her own world, such as some of the building designs and the language of the people but those were only minor similarities. “Where...” her voice cracked and dry, “Where am I?” her voice seemed to echo in the silence that was still lingering around her. Lifting her hand, brushing back a few strands of hair when she rubbed her eyes, blinking once, and then lifting to look at the buildings that still formed about her.
The attention she had given to the buildings was taken away when she felt a heavy lump in her skirt pocket. Reaching into her pocket, rumaging for a moment, she fished out something that looked like a phone? Holding it in her hand it slowly changed it shape to look like the cat she had made from clay. “Huh?” her facial expression become even more distressed as the world around her began to take on sound and smells that was familiar but still distant in her memory. “Where am I?” she cried lost and afraid in this world of dreams.
[Which rule was your favorite and why?]No character alterations and no cross-canon characters, it makes things a lot easier for people who have never come across some series and it helps to keep in character.
[Any questions?]”Can I help you cross your lawn?”- quote from the movie UP.
