Kaname continued his efforts, hardly dirtying his hands. He did a combination of pushing them backwards with wind and burning them. There were so many coming at once that he quite literally had to listen to Rise's warnings. In any other fight, he was self-sufficient and completely capable of overcoming an opposing force by himself.

Kaname flung another monster backwards, pulling water left by the previous rainfall from the earth and freezing it so that he could shoot thin ice slivers at them. It was then that he heard something. A voice. What is that? He wondered, his forehead creasing into a frown.

There was a tiny vibration in his pants and he realized that someone was currently dreaming, making a voice post or even a video post. With one hand, he pulled the device from the folds of his pants and focused half of his attention on the announcement being broadcasted. Samus. Kaname's brow rose, and he jumped several yards away as one Noctaere came crashing towards him.

After the warning message to the people of Somarium, he spoke with her briefly, and decided that they were going to meet her halfway. However, just when he had made up his mind to grab Rise and leave the creatures behind, everything grew quiet. Kaname's eyes widened as he slowly turned in a circle, reflexes still ready to attack at so much as the tiniest movement. But, there was nothing there.

Rise's glass cage melted quickly, none of the water touching her as it separated at the top and gushed down around her. His eyes rose to hers in confusion. "Where did they go?" He helped her away from the puddle of water by taking her hand. Off in the distance, another scream could be heard. His head lifted. It came as no surprise to him that it was the direction he planned to go to next. "Kujikawa-san, are you okay?" He asked, eyes still trained on the path they would be traveling next. "If so... I would very much like to go into the Business District. We're picking up reinforcements."

"They certainly have," he noted, head veering right and left every so often. Although the coast seemed to be clear, he could feel them all over, watching and waiting. It was then that Kaname's gaze shifted back to the girl who seemed to have become less chatty since the incident.

"Thank you," he said, a polite tone to his voice, but unreadable otherwise. He turned to her then, head tilting as his eyes surveyed her body. "You don't seem to be hurt." They found hers then, and he almost felt sorry for her, seeing him transform into a monster like that. Although her voice conveyed praise, it must have been shocking. "Don't worry," I don't spend my time reading thoughts very often unless it will directly benefit a greater cause. A greater cause for myself, he thought, but she didn't need to know that.

His arm moved back around her shoulders, where it barely touched her, but still served its purposes in guiding her towards the Business District.

The creatures vanished nearly as quickly as they'd appeared. One moment, she was surrounded on all sides by the malevolent shadow-things, and the next, they were gone, and it was like they'd never been there to begin with. She didn't trust this sudden silence, but used the opportunity to make her way further into the city. There was indeed a map function built into her uplink, and she'd found that no matter where she wanted to go--to the courthouse, as Agent Gray and that other fellow had suggested, perhaps--she'd have to cut through the center of the city. The 'village', as Kaname had called it.

Approaching one of the final plazas she'd have to cross before reaching the village, Samus slowed. Voices drifted to her on the chill wind, one being vaguely familiar: Kaname. She altered her course to head towards the voices, adrenaline pumping as she felt the wind pick up speed, carrying with it a faint howling.

"Kaname!" she called, rounding the corner and readying her weapon, just in case of a sudden attack.

He sensed her before he saw her or heard his name. As if anyone could miss that ungodly looking contraption she was wearing. Kaname made his way over to her at his usual slow pace, a mildly amused expression registering as he stopped in front of her. "It appears as though they really like you," he noted, studying some of the damage that had been made to her equipment.

Kaname's appearance was strangely unsoiled, but considering he had made certain that none of the creatures had touched him, it came as no surprise. That was the way he liked to do combat. Clean and precise. But, there was nothing precise about the monsters hunting them. They couldn't be killed and they most certainly were stuffed with all kinds of magic... to be bloodless... vain-less... and virtually indestructible. The discovery of ash inside of them instead of internal organs had really perturbed him. Fighting made him so famished. He definitely would need to stop eventually to dillute a blood tablet.

He moved a stray hair from his forehead as he continued to stare up at her. "This is Rise," he said, one hand gesturing to the cute girl in pigtails. "Rise... this is Samus. And as I'm sure you can see, her fighting tactics are very different from my own."

"His fighting tactics, Kaname," Samus quickly corrected him, a quelling tone in her voice. She preferred that her actual gender stay under wraps, at least until she got this place figured out. From the looks of Kaname and this...Rise...it seemed like the populace of Somarium wasn't as likely to jump to the galaxy's usual conclusion of women as the weaker gender, but best to not assume. Turning to Rise, she nodded somewhat, acknowledging the girl's questions.

"Very good questions, Rise. As for answers...seems like we're going to have to find those on our own. I haven't seen anything kill them, and they seemed to vanish just as suddenly as they appeared; I have no doubt that they'll be back."

Turning her attention back to Kaname, she finished. "We should get to the courthouse. From what I hear it's safe--a better place for noncombatants like her. From there I--we--should be able to form a better plan of attack."

Charging up her beam cannon and making certain there was no actual damage to her armor (it was rather dirty at this point, a few scratch marks marring the hard curve of her right shoulder from the building that nearly collapsed on her during her retreat from the creatures), she waited a brief second for some sort of acknowledgement from the pair. Much as she preferred working alone, she was forced to admit that for now, their best chances to figure this out lay in numbers.

Kaname's cheek indented into a small grin when Samus corrected him. He didn't understand why she would feel cautious about letting others know what her gender really was. Of course, in vampire society, the only thing that mattered was how high up in the hierarchy you were. Nothing more. Female... male... it was inconsequential because it was one's blood that was judged. He gave her a short nod.

"Yes, of course," he said, amusement present in his grin. He only made the expression available to the machine-clad woman, however, eventually turning back to Rise a few moments later. "I'm not sure why the overlords would allow such a disaster to occur. But... I guess... since we cannot die permanently, they are just looking for a little entertainment," he said, eyes narrowing and mouth tightening.

"Alright... the courthouse it is then. The gentleman makes a good argument," he noted, winking at Samus. "But, for the moment, we have a couple more visitors to attend to."

Turning sharply on his heel, Kaname's arm raised, and more water lifted from the earth, freezing immediately to penetrate something unseen in the darkness. There was a shrill cry that came from the area he had directed his attack. A moment later, something a little more substantive jumped out at them. This one had large teeth, red eyes and claws that were the size of a small child. "Well aren't you ugly," he declared with a tilt of his head. One hand lifted, a ball of fire appearing and growing above his palm. When the thing lunged at him, he blew the fire at it, the effect very theatrical and reminiscent to a dragon breathing fire on its victim.

The Noctaere fell backwards, faltering while the flames tried to envelop it. Kaname knew the fire would be put out shortly and that the monster would soon try again to attack them. He turned back around again, a dangerous glint in his eyes. "We need to move." His arms were picking up Rise and holding her close to him in the next second, and then he was moving very quickly in the direction of the courthouse.

[[ooc: Um, the voice Rise'd be hearing is male. Her suit filters it. Justsaying. I know Kanzeon would see through armor anyway, but yeah.]]

At Rise's sudden outburst, Samus simply looked at her, and even through the reflective visor of her helmet one could practically see the icy look Samus was giving the schoolgirl. "Would you care to reiterate any of that?" she asked, voice deep and foreboding. "Or shall I--"

Luckily for Rise, the rest of Samus' sentence was cut short due to a new wave of attacks. Acting quickly, the bounty hunter fired off several shots at the surrounding Noctaere, knocking them back to give Kaname a chance to get Rise out of the way. Taking up the rear, she guarded their retreat. Her style might not be as...flashy...as Kaname's, but it was just as effective.

Kaname looked from Samus to Rise, his amusement kept inward. He set Rise down, hiding her behind his back. "Samus... the rear," he called out, knowing that the girl did not need his direction and was probably already in place. His powers were weakening a bit, but he would be able to get to the courthouse and still aid those injured with healing if necessary.

But what about Yuuki... ? Would he have the strength to go to her aid afterwards?

Of course, he thought, jaw clenching as he thrusted his arms forward to throw a gust of wind at the monsters.

If he hadn't been trying not to sleep for the past month to avoid dreaming, then he wouldn't feel so run down. A ball of fire grew in his hand. "Samus, do you know how far it is from here?" He asked, yelling over the hissing and high pitched noises of the enemy. If it was close enough, he would send the women on ahead. Kaname had to limit the power of his attacks. The stronger they were, the more danger he put them in.

He closed his eyes for a moment, his hands coming together as he bent over to touch the ground. An electrical field appeared around them. Any monster that tried to cross over it would find that indestructible or not, the voltage was a force to be reckoned with.

They'd barely begun to move when the entire swarm of creatures simply vanished. Almost like they'd been called off, Samus thought, carefully lowering her weapon and scanning the area. There was no longer any sign of the Noctaere, and the temperature already seemed to be rising slightly, that deathly cold chill evaporating.

"Kaname," she began, calling his attention to the sudden environmental change. She was certain he'd already noticed, but always better to have another opinion. Especially one of someone who knew the area. Her eyes did one more sweep of the area, even running the visual through several filters. The things seemed to have vanished completely.

"This doesn't seem quite right..."

He nodded. "They've vanished. I can't even pick up their scent anymore." He turned a couple of times, eyes scanning every direction. "And the climate altered again."

Sending a look to Samus, Kaname found that he had gained a great deal of respect for the woman since their first encounter. Her fighting style and personality were different, to say the least, but a nice change from the norm. "Now then... why don't you stop hiding in that thing? It's unbecoming for a woman of your talents," he noted, a bemused expression turning up his features.

His gaze then shifted to the red head. "That was quite an adventure for your first memories of Somarium... wouldn't you agree, Kujikawa-san?"

Instead of dignifying Kaname's teasing with a response, she simply looked at him for a long moment. Inwardly, while she felt slightly irritated by his constant teasing and disregard for her desire to have her true gender remain unknown, he had proved his combat skills to be adequate, and for that at least, she respected him. Opening her mouth to say something, she was interrupted by this message blaring from her uplink. A ship? While she doubted it was her ship, it was still something that merited investigation.

Turning to Kaname once more, trying not to shake her head at Rise's banal statement, she shrugged expressively. "It always this exciting around here?"
