Cecil had debated on telling Kain about Ken, but the fact that he didn't know what to think of Ken disappearing, really, had caused him to hesitate. Because of the dragoon's reaction to the news, the white knight was eternally grateful that Rydia had beaten him to the punch. There were positive and negative elements of the young boy's departure, true, but it seemed to be a far more ominous event to Cecil than it had first seemed on the surface, now that he'd had several hours to mull over it. While the summoner had taken the opportunity to contact Kain, Cecil went for a brisk walk in the forest to be alone with his thoughts. So many misplaced had been pulled directly from their homes in Somarium as of late and it bothered the paladin for two reasons: firstly, he wasn't sure where they went once they were gone, despite the mass presumption than the individuals returned to their respective homes, and secondly, it meant it most certainly could happen to Kain or Rydia. Of all the things it was the time for, it clearly was not the time for the remaining housemates to be separated. Cecil didn't want that, for obvious reasons, and it was a relief to know that Rydia didn't either.
"I'm coming back... to the house... but I won't be staying."
"...We have to make him stay when he gets here, Rydia."
"...I know, Cecil. We can’t lose him too. If he proves too stubborn, we will leave with him, whether he wants it or not."
His recent brief exchange of words with his friends was still fresh in his mind as he stood outside, a few yards from the front door waiting for any sign of Kain. He was too apprehensive of what he knew was going to be yet another difficult conversation with the dragon knight to be very excited about Kain's return, but, yes, he wanted very much to be happy. It was simply too much of a bitter, harsh shock to find all natural evidence of Ken gone. They'd looked everywhere and there were no leads as to where he had wandered off to. The Digidestined wouldn't have left without leaving notice as to where he was headed and there was no proof of a break-in, so it really could mean only one thing, of course. Cecil had tried to prepare for the real probability that Kain would take it harder than himself or even Rydia, but that didn't mean he was quite ready to feel the other man's grief just yet. Loss had always been the most difficult trial Cecil had ever experienced at home; he couldn't really see it being any easier in this world, even if there was hope that those who left had merely been stirred from the dream.
