Haseo had been walking down the street, doing what he usually did lately. Trying to find the bastard that killed one of his closet friends here. His eyes were dark and he generally looked more like a suspect than an avenging friend at that point.
And then he stopped. In the middle of the street was--...He stared mutely. "Isabelle?" It came out quietly, before he broke off at a run, jogging to her side, staring mutely. "Isabelle you're--" He tried to choke out more words, relief at his friend being safe but--all he could do was stare mutely at her, checking her for injuries, looking around to make sure there was nothing lurking in the shadows.
He wouldn't fail to protect his friends again. He wouldn't--
Her thoughts had been elsewhere until a few long moments after he arrived at her side, her fingers tenderly testing a spot under her hair, at the back of her head. She let out a soft, gasping sigh as black eyes shifted up to look at him, words just as much caught in her own throat as his were. There was her proof she was really back in Somarium - the sight of one of her closest friends, fully and completely from another world.
"Haseo..." Isabelle started, unsure of what else to say. She was hit by too much all at once; even if she were still back in Alicante, she wasn't sure she'd be entirely fine. And especially not with the knowledge she now had. Airing on the side of caution and not bothering to speak, she simply threw her arms around him in a tight embrace.
He started at the touch, but eventually he relented, the rigidness he'd had the last week resolving as he wrapped his arms around her in return, voice gruff and fierce, "You idiot, " He choked, "Don't scare me like that again, got it?"
Haseo didn't want to lose anymore friends--not when he was around. Not someone like Isabelle, who was always so strong.
If anything, she hugged him tighter at the feeling of his flinch. She nodded as much as she could against his shoulder, biting her lip to keep her tears from falling. "Like I wanted to," Izzy managed in reply, trying as best she could for a nonchalant response. She hated being so powerless and frail, like a little girl without her Marks. Her memory still flickered in and out, giving her a skewed image of exactly what happened.
"Yeah well, you have a way of screwing around, " He mumbled irritably, relieved beyond measure, he could feel how frightened and quiet she was, and he knew better than to push it. Instead he quietly kept holding her.
"You're okay now, right? It'd be a pain if you can't still be a good sparring partner, " He added, slightly gentler.
Isabelle forced a small laugh, immensely glad for his nonchalance - as if she had simply tripped over something and grazed her knee, and not been brutally murdered right there. "I'll be fine," she replied softly, loosing her grip on him slightly. Jace would have her head on a platter if she weren't able to do her duty as a Nephilim. Besides, they were supposed to be better at coping than this. Izzy made a mental note to do better; inhaling deeply, she pasted one of her typical grins back onto her face as she pulled out of the hug. "If I weren't, who knows what would happen to you. You might get soft or something."
"Oh shut up, or I'll start looking for a wheel-chair. " He muttered, forcing a weak smirk on his face. His red eyes looked tired, and the obvious relief in his face was evident.
"I'm sorry. " He said quietly, averting his eyes. "--.I looked everywhere, tried to find the bastard myself.." The dark tone in his voice was an inkling of the darker side of him.
"--..Can you walk?" He asked. "We should get you to your house."
She swallowed deeply at the mention of 'the bastard'. That meant he was still running around. And it wasn't like she would be able to do anything to help, either. Realising her distress was showing clear on her face, Izzy nodded, forcing a small smile. She shifted one hand, lightly touching his cheek to show her gratitude.
"Thanks. You didn't have to do that." Her hand remained there for another long moment before she pulled away entirely, turning in the direction of her home. "We'd better get going. Everyone's worried enough as is, I bet."
He lightly glared at her. "Don't be an idiot .. I've lost enough friends because I was stupid and couldn't get to them in time. " Said bitterly, Haseo helped her stand, nodding. "I'll go with you."
Isabelle stretched her arms back, listening to the pop of her vertebrae before offering him a genuine smile. "Okay. Maybe it'll help with the...whole me-not-being-dead thing."
She couldn't help but grin at him, hip-checking him lightly. If she was dwelling on it, she wouldn't be Isabelle Lightwood, and then they'd have a number of other issues on their hands. One hand lightly shifted to brush over the ruby at her throat, feeling the gentle thrum - she hadn't realised there were so many benign demons around.
"Have you ever met my brothers? I can't remember."
He grunted at that, irritably enduring it only because she was back from the dead. His red eyes slanted as her peered at her from the corner of his eye. "No. Is now really a good time to meet them, Isabelle?"
"Now's as good a time as any, isn't it?" She replied, peering at him the same way, with a small, toying smile playing at her lips. "I mean, at least this way, I can spin it so that you found me or something. And then Jace won't be as much of a jerk."
"It was better than Max running around on his own, I promise you that." At the thought of Max, she sobered again, glancing around the village as they sauntered back to her house. She both dreaded and couldn't wait to get back. Haseo knew Max was dead at some point in Isabelle's future; she supposed she ought to tell him that a thing or two had changed while she was dead.
And then he stopped. In the middle of the street was--...He stared mutely. "Isabelle?" It came out quietly, before he broke off at a run, jogging to her side, staring mutely. "You're...--"
