After dropping his faithful goat beast back off and discovering Raiden had never left after all, Ocelot moodily left the base before the cyborg could see him.

He'd have to sleep outside. ...Which wasn't an entirely bad thing. He had been planning on sleeping outdoors when he had the time since Big Boss was cool enough to rough it and he wanted to try the same things he did.

He walked out to a flower garden, closer to the base than the park and a bit more enclosed and comfortable. He picked a relatively cozy-looking patch of mowed grass and settled down, waiting for sleep.

Many hours later, Big Boss crept out of the house with a blanket tucked under his arm and a thermos in his hand. He knew the young man wasn't as accustomed to sleeping outside as he was.

It was only January. He might not be prepared for the cold.

If the lack of any dream from him being broadcasted to Big Boss' dreamberry was any indication, Ocelot hadn't fallen asleep. At the sound of footsteps behind him, he snatched a revolver free and pointed it up behind him at the source of the noise.

He turned his head enough to glance at Big Boss. "Ah. Didn't expect to see you here." He spun the revolver once and put it back, then sat up.

"I thought you might be cold." Tossing the blanket onto Ocelot's lap, Big Boss handed him the thermos of hot coffee before joining him on the ground.

"I know you aren't used to being outside all the time like I am."

"Well... if you could handle it, I don't see why I can't." He wrapped his hands appreciatively around the thermos. "The guest isn't sleeping in my room, is he?"

"No, he took one of the empty rooms." Stretching his legs out in front of him, Big Boss turned to Ocelot.

"If you were careful, I'm sure you could hideout in your room."

"He's a scout, he'd probably notice something. Besides, I might snore..."

He looked at Big Boss thoughtfully. "Hmm... you came all the way out here just to warm me up..?"

He moved slightly closer. "Hmm... I'm still cold. What are you going to do about it?"

Completely unfazed and oblivious to Ocelot's real meaning, Big Boss pointed at the blanket in Ocelot's lap.

Ocelot almost grinned. Yes, Big Boss was pointing at his lap. "It's just the two of us out here. No one to interfere."

"That's right." He paused for a moment, crossing his arms across his chest.

"I'm sure there is still a lot on your mind."

Mood killed.

Ocelot looked away, jaw tightening. "Snake... I'm certain that for the rest of my life I'll never find anyone as worthwhile as you."

Big Boss' expression softened.

"I'd be a lucky soldier to have you at my side as a comrade for the rest of my life, Adam."

Ocelot wouldn't be the one to betray him. None of The Patriots would. It had to be someone he would meet in the future.

He grimaced. "I won't even be able to--..." He stopped himself with a bitter shrug and put the thermos aside on the grass.

"...Tomorrow I'll work on finding out more."

He shook his head.

"No, you don't have to. It doesn't matter. I shouldn't have found out about it in the first place."
